Reason for visit: Met up with my cousin J and her friend for lunch today at Pumpernickel because she said their eggs benedict and coffee are wonderful! Environment & Hygiene:This place is inside the Art Centre and is quite small. The 3 of us were crammed at a little table, but we managed well. It was a clean, quiet place, where people could enjoy a break from the hectic life outside. Met up with my cousin J and her friend for lunch today at Pumpernickel because she said their eggs benedict and coffee are wonderful!
Environment & Hygiene:
This place is inside the Art Centre and is quite small. The 3 of us were crammed at a little table, but we managed well. It was a clean, quiet place, where people could enjoy a break from the hectic life outside.
Taste & Value:Both me and my cousin's friend ordered the lunch set A, which was Risotto with pumpkin and mushrooms ($95). The lunch set was quite a deal because it came with bread, soup, a main, coffee/tea and dessert.
Bread: There were 2 types of bread in the basket. One with walnuts and one plain white one, and both were soft and good.
Daily Soup: I'm pretty sure it was a green pea soup. It was really flavourful because of the peas and bacon of course! Risotto with Pumpkin and mushrooms: The rice was creamy and cooked al dente. There were a lot of mushrooms and pumpkin, and I liked that I could taste everything for what they were. Nothing was overpowering and everything went nicely with each other.
Carrot Cake: This was not very good. It was hard, dry and tasteless. Maybe because it needed some more time out of the fridge.
Coffee: I think this cup of coffee was probably the best I've had so far in Hong Kong! It was a very balanced cup of coffee!
Cousin J's Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict: I got to try a bite and for the little amount I had was enough to make me come back for it next time. The bread they used had a tang of sweetness to it, which made it stand out from other eggs benedicts. The creamy sauce on top was not regualr hollandaise sauce, and was really good. The egg too was cooked perfectly. It was very good! I would recommend it!
Service:Service was really slow, my cousin was half done before our set A came. However, the staff were nice and helpful.
Final Verdict:
Overall, I liked this restaurant. Although there could be some improvements, I really liked their coffee and eggs benedict, so I know I'm gonna visit again soon!
