When I come to OR, I always search restaurants using ratings instead of numbers of smileys. When I come to OR, I always search restaurants using ratings instead of numbers of smileys. When I came across Dim Siu Yi with a 4.6 rating, one of the highest scores I've seen, I couldn't wait to round up a bunch of friends to try this place out.

8 of us went there and the first thing everyone noticed was the cool dude (waiter) who had really edgy style and a very cool personality, we were definitely entertained by him throughout the night and even nicknamed him
. They also use these Chinese style bowls with the words "Fighting Bowl" inscribed in place of glasses when drinking beer. We ordered a whopping 11 dishes including:

Whelk in Spicy Wine Broth
We were surprised how little whelks there were in that pot. Definitely overpriced for the amount (see picture). The whelks were very fresh and the broth was very well done, the right amount of spice for me and generally a bit too spicy for others.

Sweet and Sour Pork
My second favorite dish of the night. They serve the sauce separately to preserve the crunch of the pork and it's excellent. The sauce is just a normal Sweet and Sour one but I enjoyed this dish very much. But then again, I've always had a thing for this dish in general

Pig Knuckles with Red Fermented Bean Curd Sauce
The skin on this thing is so good. Just perfectly crispy on the outside and really gooey and chewy on the inside. You just have to get over the fact that you're basically eating pork fat...perfect beer food.

Clams Stir Fried in Black Bean Sauce
I was disappointed with this dish. It was pretty mediocre. It wasn't bad in anyway but I just thought that they could do a better job. I think the sauce wasn't really fragrant enough...definitely missing something.

Squid Ball Spaghetti in Squid Ink
This was a dish that I was eager to try just because I liked its looks! I'm very shallow I know
I was surprised that they even mixed ink into the squid balls. The squid balls and the ink sauce were very well done and the sauce was very fragrant. The spaghetti was a disappointment...just sad soggy spaghetti. I wish they could put more effort and cook the spaghetti fresh and this would be a 10.

Fried Salted Egg Yolk "Golden" Shrimp
This was the best!!! You eat the whole shrimp including its shells. The shells were coated in super yummy and RUNNY salted egg yolk, it's super crunchy and the flesh was also nice and bouncy when you bite into it.

Grilled Pork Belly
Its kinda like Chinese bbq pork (cha siu) and more like pork neck then belly. Nothing to write home about.

Hairy Cucumber in Gold and Silver Egg Broth
I didn't try this, so no comment. Wasn't very attracted by its looks

Grilled Blind Cave Fish
This was good! Its struffed with herbs such as lemon grass...etc sorta like Thai style and the fish skin is coat with salt and the scales are still intact. I adored the crispy skin even though it was pretty salty at times.

Chinese Broccoli Stir fried in Shrimp Paste
I was looking forward to this dish, but lets just say that its better to smell than to eat this dish. It was pretty greasy and salty.

Signature Fried Rice
A very well done fried rice! the rice was light, dry, slightly chewy and not greasy and all the ingredients were mixed well but separate and not mushed together.

Grilled Boneless Chicken Wings Stuffed with Asparagus
This came when we were very full so I guess it was good but not special. Just a grilled chicken wing with no bones, order something more innovative if you can.

Cheesecake
This cheesecake is not on the menu but I just heard about it through friends. I asked the cool dude about it and he recommended red bean and mango. Its a very Asian style mousse cheesecake. The red bean was better than the mango imo. If I had this else where I probably wouldn't have liked it at all, but ordering cheesecake in a dai pai dong is kinda cool.

Grass Jelly (Free)
My friends at the table kept telling me about the ginger grass jelly at the sister shop Tung Po and how good it was. This was not it. This was just a tasteless (except for sweetness) bowl of grass jelly....I guess the texture was good and chewy but that was also ruined by having it cut wayyyy too tiny. I want the ginger one!!!

Overall the food was good and innovative, definitely a fun alternative to traditional Dai Pai Dongs. However, I personally think that 4.6 is way too high of a score....it'll probably come down in time like its sister shop tung po. If you are looking for a place to chat, don't come here because I had trouble speaker to the person next to me it was so noisy! One of my friends thought that its pretty pricey for a Dai Pai Dong. Overall an enjoyable experience!
