Visited 蓮香樓 at 10+ in the morning. It was already pretty crowded and we spent about 10 mins looking for seats. It was pretty intense cause nobody serves you here and you're all on your own (yes, pretty intimidating considering how some were already accustomed to this style) we finally located 4 seats near the corner of the restaurant. But. This imprudent China lady insisted that she located the seats first so we had to give it up to her. We decided to find seats elsewhere and thankfully enough,
Visited 蓮香樓 at 10+ in the morning. We decided to find seats elsewhere and thankfully enough, managed to situate ourselves nearer to the centre of the restaurant. This spot later proved useful in helping us to snatch for Dim Sum HAHAHAHA!
The unique thing about this restaurant is the traditional Dim Sum push-carts you see moving about the restaurants. Keep a look-out for the push carts because the Dim Sum sell out really fast! Especially the 蓮蓉包 which we couldn't get😭 you wouldn't know what each cart offers from afar so try to approach the employees to check out what their carts are carrying
We tried various Dim Sum notably the 蘿蔔糕 and 馬拉糕. You can spot the 馬拉糕 from the super huge "Dim Sum Bowl". Try your luck sometimes it may contain charsiew bao instead. The 馬拉糕 was really fluffy and had a really nice texture though it was a little too bland for my liking. The 蘿蔔糕 was just right - tasty, soft and had enough ingredients. It was recommended to us by a local uncle who was a regular there and happened to be sharing a table with us You won't go wrong following the taste buds of a local he also recommended the 蓮蓉包 which was taken by others before we could get it. We also ate other dishes like 蝦米腸粉,叉燒腸粉,燒賣, 蝦餃. They were pretty much ordinary tasting though the 蝦餃 skin had a superrr smooth texture.
For 4 of us, we spent a total of HKD316 and ordered 13 Dim Sum dishes^_^ fairly reasonable. This place is a must try if you would like to have an authentic Dim Sum experience (snatching Dim Sum, finding your own seats, chatting up with locals over a meal). Finding of seats is really a trouble (more so for a bigger group) but once you're sitted, it's more or less about getting the food. And if you're not a fussy eater or are not out to try any particular Dim Sum dishes, then the second part is pretty simple Do remember to bring your paper along as each time you get a Dim Sum dish from the push-cart Aunty/uncle, they would stamp on it as an annotation!
