Me and my friend went for a dinner at Reserva Ibérica Tapas Bar & Café on a Friday- the perfect day for great food and drinks. Located in Lee Garden Three, the seatings and space here are fairly limited but overall the setting is still fairly comfortable. The fact that I could observe both the carving of Jamón Ibérico Hams and the brewing of Hand-drip Coffees at the same time is impressive and an enjoyment in itself. It took around 20 minutes for the food we ordered to arrive, which was acceptable given that the place was fully packed on a Friday night. We shared a bottle of Rimarts 18 Cava, which has an excellent balance between sweetness and acidity. Given that we both have quite an appetite, we ordered a multitude of Tapas and main dishes. The most notable ones are the Reserva Ibérica Carbonara, Deluxe Jamón Platter and Padrón Peppers:
- The Carbonara is extremely luscious in taste, as it includes Jamón Shavings and Manchego Cheese. The rich flavour of the former and the nutty character of the latter left a lasting impression on my palate.
- The Deluxe Jamón Platter includes 4 types of Ibérico Hams: Guijuelo (60 months+), Jabugo (48 months+), Countryside Grain-fed (30 months+) and Serrano. Jabugo has the most intense taste, due to the fact that this type of ham is produced in Huelva, Southern Spain. The weather there is hotter thus more salt is needed for the curing process. Overall, one can notice the sweetness of acorns in the hams and be captivated by their palatable tastes.
- The Padrón Peppers are mildly spicy and very crispy in texture, Flor de Sal adds a pinch of saltiness to this delicious Tapas.
Overall, the dining experience at Reserva Ibérica Tapas Bar & Café was very pleasing and helped satisfy my desires of exploring Spanish cuisine in all its glory. I wish the seatings could be a little more spacious but given that this is Hong Kong, I can understand the limitations posed here. I also think that if the waiting time is slightly shortened, it would make for a much more appeasing dining experience.
