So so awful for its price range and good commendation by Eat Drink Man Woman that it prompted me to open an account in Open Rice to write about it!!!! I was actually rather looking forward to come to this restaurant having read a dishy little article about it in EDMW. I was actually rather looking forward to come to this restaurant having read a dishy little article about it in EDMW. Unlike CWB, Central has a serious lack of decent mid-price japanese restaurant options (well lets say apart from Senryo in IFC) so i was happy when EDMW mentioned this place, calling it something like the best mid-price izakaya options in central. i was soooo dispointed. usual suspects denoting sub-standard authenticity included nornal mayonaise for salad as suppose to japanese mayo, preserved salted salmon roe as suppose to fresh ones, fresh "ika" (squid) marinated in crab roe. Kushiyaki was awful, our chicken wing was tastless and the worse frozen meat you can get on the market. The stock for our nabe udon was like water, with zero flavour, so was the extremely ordinary baked mushroom, which came out flavourless, swimming in water.
The bill for a meal for 3 people, including one bottle of house sake and 1 beer, came to 750. with sashimi costing 30 dollars per 2 slices of salmon, i won't call that cheap japanese. But it tasted cheap indeed.
And I would definitely think twice about EDMW reviews in future. At least I will cross check all EDMW recommendations with other onlines reviews.
