A little lazy to make dinner, I decided to order take away. Had a craving for donburi and thought of 豊勝手丼 (English name: Toyo Katte Don). I decided on something from the lunch set menu as it came with a miso soup, salad and appetizer. After a huge temptation of on sushi, I decided on the slow cooked angus beef short rib donburi ($98) as the weather was a bit hot and I worried raw fish might not be good for take away. Everything was packaged in a tight container that held together well even with the bumpy tram ride back home.
The salad was ok. A light drizzle of dressing and I could find some cherry tomatoes among the salad greens.
The appetizer was edame beans. These were not salted. I prefer them salted so to me, these were bland.
The miso soup was forgettable. It was just water with dashi powder.
But those aside ... the main attraction was the donburi. This was pretty spot on. A huge portion of rice, heavily seasoned with furikake. The egg was perfectly cooked. The beef was melt in your mouth. It was also not over cooked and remained so even when I got home.
The donburi was pretty good though the sides were not that great. Probably come back and just order an a la carte donburi and skip on adding extra for the sides.
