Dim sum menu is absolute perfection.

Dim sum--點心--is food that touches the heart. In the case of Pearl Delight, JC Group's flagship Cantonese restaurant, it really did. Pearl Delight's interior was really screaming Asian contemporary--light, clean, minimalistic. We were promptly seated and served our tea, then chose eight items from the bilingual menu because we're Fat Kids Forever and proud of it. I'm now going to take on the challenge of ranking those dishes in order, from worst to best. (Keep in mind, though, they were all supe

 8. Roast Goose: Whaaaat? The roast goose was the worst thing on the table? But that's the level I'm talking about here. There wasn't even anything wrong with the meat. It's just that if you want perfection, you have to go to a roast goose specialist. Try Sham Tseng!

 7. Har Gow: These dumplings were perfectly fine too! But I have to take into consideration that they usually are--it's hard for a decent dim sum place to screw up this dish.

 6. Osmanthus, Red Bean, and Coconut Pudding: This signature dish combines coconut pudding with osmanthus jelly and red bean. It was competently made and looked beautiful, though--and maybe this is just personal preference--I doubt it will ever really cross my mind again.

 5. Bean Curd Roll with Shrimp. These prawn-filled rolls came out volcanic, but were tasty enough that I didn't mind having the roof of my mouth burned. They also weren't excessively greasy, which was a plus.

 2. Chicken Feet: Well, this dish made me the happiest, and doesn't that count for something? I've had some terrible chicken feet but these just melted in my mouth. The sauce was surprisingly sweet, either due to the addition of sugar or because something had been caramelized during the cooking process.

 1. Minced Lotus Root Puff: Look at that. You don't even need to taste it to know that it's perfect. Fluffy, flaky, piping hot, filled with lotus root mince and likely more pork lard than I need to know about.

So there you have it. We spent $424, thanks mostly to the roast goose, and left with big smiles on our faces. This is the best dim sum you'll find outside of the Michelin Guide--actually, does Pearl Delight have a Michelin star? Probably should, just sayin'.
