Went with a friend after swimming today, was quite hungry, so was happy to see that the dishes were not expensive and we could order more food...we ordered 2 ramen, mine was grilled eel, friend's was the restaurant's signature ramen, which has smoked duck breast, char siu and pork tender ribs (the cartilage). we ordered 2 ramen, mine was grilled eel, friend's was the restaurant's signature ramen, which has smoked duck breast, char siu and pork tender ribs (the cartilage). Also ordered clams in sake (only 4 pieces), grilled chicken fillet, golden mushrooms wrapped in beef, and the japanese 年糕, which you can cook by yourself over a little metal mesh and fire stove... very cute, had lots of fun playing around with it after being taught how to cook it properly without burning the whole thing by the ?owner. Tasted nice after dipping it into the sauce provided, and the texture was lovely, just chewy and glutinous enough for my likings. The grilled chicken fillet was not much of a surprise, and was a bit cold too, the beef and golden mushroom was so so only, the 4 pieces of clams was OK, but mine had sand in it, very gritty. The best was the ramen, came with 3 big pieces of seaweed, and the soup base was also nice, and the ramen cooked well enough but not too soft... only thing is that i only had 4 pieces of eel in mine, and it was more expensive than the signature ramen, with 3 types of meat in it!
The service was ok, the waitress paid attention to when we finished our tea, and also promptly gave me another pair of chopsticks after i dropped mine. The place is quite small, only seats about 20, and the smoke does get onto your hair and clothes, but for a cheap and filling meal, it's a good alternative to the regular HK-style japanese restaurants around town.
