Our last stop at 牛頭角下村 was at 文記 for a takeout 車仔麵. I must be honest that I am crazy about 車仔麵 because I am quite indecisive and there are just too many options for me (which actually become a negative…). I only planned to try it because it offered an rather unusual item for 車仔麵: pomelo skin (柚皮). After looking at the list of ingredients for a good old 10 minutes and some help from my friends , I finally decided on this combination: 粗麵+ 柚皮x2+ 豬紅+ 鳳爪+ 白色蘿+ 沙嗲魷魚+ 螺肉, EXTRA HOT. Everything was of the right texture, not too soft or too chewy, with the main flavor being the spicy broth. I enjoyed the squid which was crunchy and spicy. The 柚皮 was also well-prepared, soft and easy to chew on, despite a very very mild bitter taste and a little stringy. It is still a lot better than many restaurants who bother to put 柚皮 on their menu.
The broth is actually not very special and if you don’t order spicy, it will be too bland, which defeats the purpose of having 車仔麵.
While I wouldn’t call it great, I am glad I tried. I don’t mind having it again, as long as someone will share the big bowl with me!
