There is this shop in Jordan called 雲南啊老表黑羊湯鍋米綫 (English name: Yunnan Old Friend Black Mountain Goat Rice Noodle Shop....I didn't make this up, I found out when I saw their menu but it's also the literal translation of what is says in Chinese). It specialize in mountain goat meat noodles and I was always interested. But as boyfriend didn't like goat or lamb, we never went as I always feared it'd have an all Chinese menu and I really relied on him to order for me.But one evening in Kwun Tong, we
But one evening in Kwun Tong, we passed by another branch of this restaurant. I had no idea they had another branch! It's a bit away from APM and near the bridge. Boyfriend looked at the menu and he said they also served beef so he was willing to go eat with me as I really wanted goat.
Inside was a very casual noodle shop. They had photos describing what a black mountain goat was.
The menu is simple and SURPRISE! It was in English and Chinese. They offered three types of noodles: goat, beef and pork in two sizes. They also offer some Northern Chinese snacks. Writings on the wall in Chinese are items not on the menu but they have photos of what they look like. There is no 10% service charge.
The drinks menu is in Chinese only but they are self explanatory and nothing out of the ordinary you can't find anywhere else.
They do have a special set that includes a can of coke. I've been seeing this promo around several local eateries.
Goat with Skin Noodles (Small bowl $39). I ordered a small bowl and wow. Was it ever big!
The bowl was bigger than my hand and it was packed with noodles.
They used round rice vermicelli noodles. These were nice and chewy. The way I liked it. The soup was light and not too rich. I ordered goat with skin because I love the skin. You can choose without skin. I just feel with skin, it's less dry. Maybe it's that extra layer of fatty tissue? The meat was moist and tender. Literally melted in my mouth. This was bang for you buck as there was a lot of meat and noodles. It seemed like I was constantly eating away and haven't even reached bottom.
Beef Brisket Noodles (Large size $47). Boyfriend doesn't like goat or lamb so he had the beef brisket. As he feared portions would be small, he ordered a large. Well...we had no idea portion sizes here was so big. This was the large bowl and it was even bigger than mine and mine was pretty big.
It also used the same rice vermicelli noodles. But the broth had a slight beefy taste. The brisket was moist and tender. Not chewy at all.
Savory Mini Cucumbers ($19). We ordered two snacks and honestly, if we knew the bowls of noodles were that big, we would have skipped it. Even the snack portions were huge! I've had better elsewhere but for this price and this huge amount, I can forgive. The cucumbers were crunchy but sliced in huge portions. The sauce wasn't rich enough and it appeared the cucumbers didn't soak up enough of the marinade.
Cold Chicken Feet ($18). Boyfriend ordered this as he knew I loved chicken feet but I knew it'd be spicy so I told him no, but he ordered it as he didn't hear me say so. Well...it was SUPER spicy. Portion size was also huge for a snack. But from the one lone foot I had before I gulped down loads of ice tea, it was fairly good. Just super spicy. I would suggest you get the Sichuan spicy oily chicken if you don't eat feet. It is the same marinade.
Huge portions. I liked my bowl of noodles. The goat meat was excellent. Cheap prices. Huge portions. Hearty food. What more can you ask for? I'll be back. And on my own, too as they have English so I don't have to rely on boyfriend.
