It's difficult to overstate how awesome this place is. I love the wait staff here--friendly and chatty and so helpful when it comes to recommendations. On previous visits, the most memorable dish I had was the mussels with fries--the mussels were tender and fresh, done just right, and the fries were crispy and hot like the best fries should be. On this particular occasion, however, we'd only ordered dessert, and oh, what glorious desserts they were. The place offers a full page of dessert crepe
The place offers a full page of dessert crepes, but I think out of the three we had, le defi, the crepe with caramel ice cream, caramelized bananas and salted butter caramel, was the best. Not just the best of this bunch, but possibly the best dessert ever (I'm a caramel lover so my view may be slightly skewed). The salted butter caramel was homemade in the kitchen of the restaurant, the waiter told me, and it totally shows--the complex, butteriness of the flowing caramel warmly bathes every ingredient on this dish like an all-embracing, loving mother, and to top it off, the caramel ice cream had beautiful buttery caramel chunks whose fudgy texture elevates the entire dessert onto a different plane of existence altogether. Highly, highly recommend this dish.
We also had la jamaicaine, the crepe with coffee ice-cream, caramelized bananas, chocolate sauce, dried raisins and flamed with rum. The alcohol makes for an interesting fiery presentation, and the coffee ice cream and chocolate sauce was particularly well-partnered, but at the end of the day, I think the rum was slightly overwhelming for this particular dish. la licorne, the crepe with fresh mango, strawberry, coconut ice cream, red fruit sauce and whipped cream was a very good summer-flavored dessert--I particularly enjoyed the light coconut ice cream and the fluffy whipped cream, the latter of which was obviously hand-made and had the interesting texture of melted marshmallows, which I loved.
Also, the house sodas were pretty nice--I had soda with fresh strawberries and saw the barista make it in front of my eyes because I was sitting at a bar seat next to the open kitchen, and the fresh strawberries, combined with strawberry sauce which looked like jam, made for a light and bubbly summer drink, topping off a perfect Friday evening.
