Burgers don't seem to leave headlines here -- McDonald's secretly raised their prices, burger joints opening and then closing within a matter of months, and then, there is BLT burger, a fairly large room with the bar and kitchen on one side, the tables on the other. The decor is strictly American, and to resemble a hangout place, a television turned to the channel of sports is mandatory. Tiled floors with chestnut brown tables reflect on earthy makeovers from the previous restaurant that took space on the same spot. The booths are cozy here at BLT burger, but you'll risk being watched (and judged) by passers-by who should have no business in seeing you lick your fingers, lips, and possibly any part of the burger you're about engulf into your mouth.

The menu looks promising enough. Burgers, starters, and salads, together with fries, desserts and drinks on both sides of the menu. You can't have an All-American joint without shakes to go with burgers, nor can you boast yourself of a hangout without sports and beer. Here, luckily enough, are well equipped. Burger lovers should have no problem makingup their minds here. Somehow, I entered the unknown territory ordering the Roaring Forties Blue ($98), which features a 6 oz Angus Beef burger, with 'Roaring Forties blue cheese', mushrooms, and balsamic caramelized onions.

Arriving in what may look like a platter more than a plate. Deli pickles were placed on one side, with cole slaw in a small cup beside them. The pickles are crunchy with such intense combination of saltiness and tartness, unlike many out there which taste more like preserved in syrup than in vinegar. The burger was big enough, but not as big as the one Pro Burger used to serve. The sesame-topped bun was lightly toasted on the inside, sandwiching a moist patty cooked until medium (level of doneness assumed as medium, but if you want your patty any other ways, please inform the staff when you order). The patty ditched the charcoal grill toastiness and picked up on juicy interior. Dots of blue cheese sat on the patty, which was then covered with caramelized onions and mushrooms, offered a unique richness to the burger. The sweetness in the caramelized onions helped lightening up the richness from the cheese, hence creating a "mouthful" of surprise in every bite.

Fat Fries ($38) is as it's called -- fat potato fries that are fried crispy, and served in a metal cup. Each piece was crunchy and steamy hot within. It's easy to be reminded of the old days with the rustic style food is served here. And those o fancy milkshakes can give it a try. But do beware the boasted authenticity to American food -- it may be a little on the sweet side, and beware! Milkshakes can be quite filling as well. Grownups can also choose Spiked Milkshakes with booze added in (as little as I register with the thought of drinking before lunch)

BLT Burger seems like a good place for a hangout, as much as the shop administation wants to market it as 'casual', it's just as hard to realize that you're in fact eating fast food but under a posh roof and a name that appears occasionally on foodie calendars. As much as diners may feel they should conform to the supposed 'casual' style emphasized -- the staff's uniform involves loose shirt with jeans, music is playing, the television is on, there are no strict rules on cell phones, dress codes, or a manager who eyes someone across the room if he drops a stray grain of salt on the table while shaking the salt/pepper shakers. The pretense seems to be all out the window -- the only clue that gave it away was at the door, where the hostess greets you with a smile while sporting a straight, ironed suit. It may seem casual within, but let's not forget the poshness within it all. Good thing the complication within it all didn't affect the burgers, and thank god for that.
A bright sign you cannot miss.
