When TONKICHI was literally the only Tonkatsu specialist back in the days, I have always wondered what the fuss was about. To me the Panko crust here was decent but not as good as those in Japan, and the pork flavour or texture was way off the Japanese standards. Haven't been back for a while and ordered the most expensive Kagoshima Premium Pork Set @$198.
- The pork was slightly dry and thin, but for a so called premium quality pork was completely tasteless. Even Don Don Ya has a better version these days...
- The rice was not bad but slightly broken and over cooked.
- The salad sauces and Tonkatsu sauce was good though.
Overall, it is just not the type of Tonkatus shop I would pay for and take a gamble again.
