For various reasons we are no longer visiting Shenzhen for food like pickled hot & sour fish or spicy hotpot. While authentic provincial specials like spicy roast fish remains a favourite for HKers. Lately I visited “Little Fish” to see how they do. For the soup base, we picked “活火山泡椒剁椒豆花”, all the soups provided spicy levels from little to very spicy, but this “volcanic pickled & fermented chilli” flavour started from “medium”… it’s definitely boiling hot but also aromatic, authentic flavours h

Special thumbs up to the bean curd, really smooth and went perfectly with the spices.
The fish was 江團魚 - a type of freshwater catfish with nearly 1kg of weight, it got the freshness and tender texture, said to be rich in fat content and collagen as well. In my opinion it’s tasty and a good choice for this spicy soup.
After consuming the fish, we ordered other ingredients for our hotpot, including celtuce, radish, flat noodles, crispy fish skin, beef and mushroom meatballs, deep fried luncheon meat and udon. Of course, you got to try the lime soda - so refreshing and saved me from burning lips and tongue…
All in all, it’s a surprise that with a reasonable price (starting from less than $300) you get a whole fish including the soup base, that tasted nice. If you miss heading North for Spicy Fish hotpot, it might worth a try here at @little.fish.hk!
