I love hotpot. I love it so much, I even do it by myself. So, when I saw there was a new all you can eat hot pot place, I wanted to give it a try. So, boyfriend, his mother and sister and I went here on Chinese New Year. Located in Mong Kok, in a building with a lot of other all you can eat places, is this Taiwanese style hot pot place called 馬辣台式鴛鴦火鍋 (English name: Spicy Horse Hotpot).
As we were there during Chinese New Year, they had Chinese New Year prices.
However, when it's not Chinese New Year, this is what they actually charge. Basically, for $158, you have two hours to stuff yourself silly.
The restaurant is quite large. There are plenty of seats but mostly in a booth setting. In the middle is what looks like a train. That is where most of the all you can eat sides such as balls and vegetables can be found. These were all labelled in Chinese only.
They had a large variety of dipping sauces or toppings to add to your dipping sauce. These were also labelled in Chinese only.
They had rice, including this Taiwanese mince meat rice with an egg. This was fairly good.
They had a nice selection of drinks, including coconut water!
They also had canned drinks.
Highlight was some Somersby cider flavors I have not seen before.
There was also Dreyers ice cream and Fruttato Gelato.
As well as a bunch of popsicles and ice cream mochi. Some frozen udon was found here, too.
And you can also get some desserts (which were mostly puddings and jello).
And if you still not satisfied, if you go to the right side of the room, there is an area where you can grab pancakes!
Creme brulee, steamed milk custard and bread pudding??
I tried the bread pudding. Oddly too custardy and the vanilla sauce had no vanilla flavor.
This area also has hand made dumplings. Grab these. These were great!
They have a menu where you can check off type of meat that you want. This is in Chinese only. They offer clams, fish, shrimp and various cuts of beef, pork, lamb and chicken.
Each table has a jug of basic broth for refilling your hotpot soup when it gets a bit low.
You can choose two soup bases. We chose seafood tomato and parsley and satay. The satay soup base wasn't that strong in taste. I felt it was bit on the weak side. The seafood tomato really only tasted like tomato but there was a shrimp found in it.
We ordered a first round of meat. This is the fish slices. Very fresh and did not have an overly fishy flavor.
The prawn were a nice decent size and had a firm fresh texture. The clams were cleaned properly as I didn't detect any sand.
We ordered all the various cuts of beef. All were pretty decent quality.
This was the rib eye. Pretty decent quality.
For an all you can eat place, the variety of food was immense. Quality of the food was good as well. Price was not overly expensive and place was clean. I would be back
