Ming Bistro has become my go-to family dinner spot since a while back because their food has maintained a good quality with a very big menu for customers to choose from. Every dish is prepared freshly at a very hot temperature which is very important for Chinese cuisine. Located on the 14/F of Hysan Place, the best way to get here is to take the elevator directly which is going to save you a lot of time. Their drinks embrace some healthy elements like barley, chia seeds, fruits, honey and more. With no exception, this fruity drink is mixed with some honey and sweet tangerine paste, giving it an adequate amount of sweetness and sourness from the lime. A very chilled refreshing drink to soothe your appetite.
Comparatively a lighter drink with lower in sweetness. The generous amount of barley in this drink is giving it a kind of gelatinous texture to drink. It kind of thicken up but still very light somewhat healthy because barley is actually very good for you.
Deep fried shrimp with yuzu honey sauce $72
At least 10 pieces of shrimps are deep fried in just a light thin batter, coated in a sticky sweet and sour yuzu honey glaze. It's slightly chewy and crispy on the outside, still moist and juicy on the inside when it comes to the shrimp. No syrup was used as the sauce would not get clotted up after sitting for a while. The shrimp itself is crunchy and fresh, perfectly complimented by the tasty sauce.
Honestly, this is the reason I keep coming back to this restaurant. I had my favourite kind of char siu here before and I have always been have that exact same taste again. We had to order this dish whenever we come here, the BBQ pork is a bit fattier this time yet still super succulent. The meat is super juicy and the taste has a perfectly balanced sweet and salty Chinese seasoning flavour. The moist pork pieces just melted in your mouth. Still very delicious but it can be leaner because it should be tender enough.
Nothing can be more traditional than a good bowl of hot double boiled soup in Cantonese cuisine. A good soup can always remind me of my mum who used to cook me lots of different soup almost every single day! Once again, the ingredients are packed in the soup giving a natural sweetness from the plantae flower as well as the lean succulent partridge meat. I believe some of the sweetness is also coming from the sweet red dates that are used after the soup being boiled for long hours.
It is quite a big bowl of soup and it can definitely warm you up in this cold weather !
There are lots of different kinds of Chinese style veggie but we have chosen a basic one with just soya sauce and garlic as the seasoning. The cabbage itself is very sweet because they only picked the baby young cabbage with a light yellowish colour. It is soft and it absorbs all the flavourful soya taste from the sauce. Simplicity is always the best.
This is my second time ordering this bowl of rice because it's simply amazing! The crispy bits of the rice is mixed with the normal dried fried rice. Absolutely delightful and highly addictive. There are also many many pieces of fresh fried prawn along with the crispy flavourful rice. You can definitely have a few bowls of this on its own without having to go with any other dishes! I highly recommend you to try it out !
The last dish is just a few pieces of dumpling with a mixed of pork and veggie filling. The skin is the thick type of skin while I actually prefer a thinner type. I believe they are the Northern China kinda dumpling. The sauce is pretty good with just about everything. I can even add the sauce to my rice for a stronger flavour!
Lastly, you can't believe the variety of dessert they serve in this restaurant. The mango pancakes are beautifully done with a damn sexy bright pleasant yellow skin, pillowed with a lot of soft fluffy fresh whipped cream and giant pieces of juicy sweet mango. It is indulging but this is what dessert is about. They have nailed this very classic dessert! Every ingredient is top-notch and done really nicely. For just $32, you can enjoy this quality of food, which is better than most of the Cantonese tea houses out there.
