The last time KFC had their 'Deep Fried Sushi' roll I was kind of keen to suss it out but I missed the boat completely - may be I just wasn't game or fancied one enough! It probably won't make me a better 'Gourmet' or 'Reviewer' either by queing up for Junk Food, but curiosity is a big incentive plus writing about food is never about Right or Wrong for me anyway.... Anything to me is 'edible', as long as its executed to its maximum potential and satisfies the anticipation part of the equation

It probably won't make me a better 'Gourmet' or 'Reviewer' either by queing up for Junk Food, but curiosity is a big incentive plus writing about food is never about Right or Wrong for me anyway.... Anything to me is 'edible', as long as its executed to its maximum potential and satisfies the anticipation part of the equation. (*I buy a lot of Junk Food from Okashi Land, Supermarket, Choco shops, and I still do eat Burger King and McDonalds, Yoshinoya, Cafe de Coral or buy drinks from Starbucks, etc. So do a lot of the regular population!) So what was I here for? Well after a late night of games and well into late supper hours in TST, my other choices would have been Sushi Toku, 源記, Maccas or here, etc, etc. AND I HAVEN'T TRIED THE NEW KFC'S CHEESY CHICKEN !

CHEESY CHICKEN:
First impression is that It smells really odd ... in a half unpleasant way. The floured skin had cheese taste pre-mixed, this then topped again afterwards with an almost fluorescent orangey cheese sprinkle to double emphasize the about-to-encounter cheese hit.
I really thought it reeked ... but couldn't identify it. Was it unfresh oil?

When I finally took courage to bite in, I figured it was probably OK but the food radar detector just wouldn't stop buzzing. Something wasn't right about the whole thing.
So it took me a while for the senses to draw the association - but in fact, the cheese they use in the Cheesy Chicken resembles the very same artificial flavour enhancing powder they line the CALBEE or EDO Potato Chips with (such as 熱浪's Pizza)! You know that feeling when you eat a packet of those chips, when its kinda of pleasant but somehow you're acutely aware that these potato crisps have been completely unnaturally flavoured by chemical scientists, in an attempt to 'emulate the real thing'. Its Molecular Gastronomy - 分子料理 at its worst and applied in a very unencouraging way and I'm surprised but may be shouldn't be, to find it coating a KFC product

CHEESE SAUCE:
A gooey mayo based mess, this tasted nothing like cheese at all. In fact it reminds me more of curry and probably is! The colour did look a bit like those Canned Aerosol Easy Cheese, except the latter actually has some artificial cheddar taste. The KFC Cheese Sauce really is a disaster - it couldn't even 'fake' it in a more believable way except for the colour!

*Note - I do not reject 分子料理, I'm actually a stern supporter and find it largely mis-interpreted by the general public who don't understand the science and meaning behind its invention in the 1st place. But this.... I would rather eat headless chickens grown in a laboratory!*
