It’s a veggie spring rolls… it looks simply but very impressive after a bite! feeling so nice to sitting at that “half open area to the windows” for a relaxing weekend afternoon. and it’s a really good angle for photo taking.

专程入来西贡找这家小店，主要是为了它的 Pie! 老实说，在 openrice 说自己是英式食肆的相当多，但一般除了供应 fish & chip 或 all day breakfast 之外，大部分店子其实「就系得咁多」，而这家英式酒吧，竟然有英式 Pie, 坦白说，我在尖沙咀铜锣湾也难找得到来吃。原来这店的 Pie, 除了 Chicken & Mushroom Pie 较常有供应之外，其他的仍要碰碰运气。几日前，打电话来问说有 Pukka Pie, 但去到结果没有了，变成 Steak and Kidney Pie, 没关系，也不错！这间始终是酒吧，不是餐厅，因此食物供应的款式始终有限！亦因为它始终是酒吧，没理由在此不喝酒。我叫了两 round, 第一杯叫了「长岛冰茶」开开胃，第二杯唱黑啤，英国吧嘛！

When I saw the name of this place on OpenRice, I did not expect it to be a pub because the name Poets is more like a Cafe or classy restaurant.Anyway, decided to go in and try their pies because of ChanJan's review.When I got there, it was quiet and clean inside.The waitress had disappeared somewhere so I had to wait for a bit.When she came back I asked her what the daily pie was and she said it was steak and kidney so I ordered it.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Steak and kidney pie:When it arrived, it looked like a Mexican bun.Inside the pie, there was lots of succulent pieces of beef and gravy.The pie was piping hot but the centre of the filling was still icy.Since I do not really eat beef I was too lazy to complain.But the rest of the pie and gravy was delicious because the gravy was really rich and you could taste fine bits of kidney and liver.The pastry was really really flakey just like a vol u vont.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Pickled egg:The pickled egg was pickled right through to the yolk, the yolk was quite vinegary too.The size of the yolk was big too compared to other eggs, there was not much egg white as I hoped.The egg white was really nice because it was really sour and the pickled yolk was really silky.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

众多人口中的西贡，只是食海鲜，食大餐。这一个小小的渔港，其实也是一个国际美食的集中地，当中，也有不少西餐厅，于西贡发迹，之后可以说开到成行成市，大家可以以 Jasper，Pisano，Okapi 为例，西贡西餐厅的质素，一向都是非常之有水准的。前一阵子，让我看中了一家酒吧，是一家令我感觉亲切的英式酒吧，而名字也是可爱的，前身叫 Odd Fellars，如今叫 Poets，非常之有诗意。高凳子围著吧台，卖的是英国流行的啤酒品牌，当然也有香港的生力啤啦，这酒吧有少少时尚感，但也保留了传统的英式风格。这样子的酒吧，一定会令到老外感觉特别的 home。 我要的啤酒，也是英国人爱好，在英国的酒吧内常常看到的 Stella Artois，简称 Stella。Stella，不是英国啤，是比利时的啤酒，酒精度比较浓烈，但麦味就不是太浓，是一个苦口，甘甘地的啤酒，浓味的 Lager 啤酒，越冻是越好饮的。 来这儿的目的，是为了英式焗批，是某一天我路经此店时看见黑版上写著 home made pie 而令我的心兴奋起来。我入来后，第一句说的话是 half pint Stella，第二句话是 what is today's pie。是日的 pie ，有两个选择，另一个选择忘记了，因为我一听到第一选择时，Steak and Kidney Pie，未听晒介绍，心目中已选好了。我就来一份 Steak and Kidney Pie with chips and beans。薯条同茄豆都是热热的，很是好食。但是日的午餐主角是批，我主要点评的，也是这一个又大又酥香的 Steak and Kidney Pie。皮，是一个很特别的酥皮，有别于英国速食店时常看见的 Pukka Pie 或 Hollands Pie，这一个巨型的 Pie，绝对是真正的 home made。这批也是新鲜的生焗，做批的面粉该是含有发粉吧，这批不均匀地在其中一角凸起了，完全是家庭制作的不拘小节，我喜欢。 用力用刀用叉切开这一个批，皮虽然是厚的一点，但顶层的酥化感，是由顶一直伸延到皮底的，浓浓的 gravy 烧汁，啖啖的牛肉粒及猪腰粒，味道是浓烈的，食英国的批就是要充满这一些浓浓烈烈的肉汁香味，感觉才有趣，而这浓味是一直保留在批的内部，没有烧浆，没有流出，完完全全的封锁在这一层酥皮入面，这一种外面香，里面更香的味道，就是英式 pie 的诱人之处。 在香港，不是经常性可以吃到这样的一个既传统又美味的英国批，香口加上香口，英国的批，很饱，很 full，很肉，也好好食。是一个一试难忘的好味道。
