Great Wine and Tapas

I´ve been to this tapas bar twice in the past two weeks. Located in Wan Chai just behing PP3 it´s in my oppinion a great place for breakfast, lunch, dinner or simply to enjoy a glass of wine with a friend or colleague. The wines are amazing, handpicked by the owner and over 90% of them spanish wines. The spanish grape tempranillo is predominant and if you have tasted these types of wines before you know it is excellent. Let the owner guide you with the type of wine that goes well with each dish.

I had the following dishes:
Croquetas [/bROQUETAS ]
- they had 3 different types when i went (shrimp, ham and mushroom), the mushroom ones are highly recommended!!!
Jamon Iberico
- EXCELLENT, BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN!!
Tortilla de Patata

Chorizo in Wine Sauce - RECOMMENDED!!!!

Scallop wrapped in Ham - RECOMMENDED!!!

Huevos rotos with chorizo (spanish dish egg with potatoe)

Meat Balls -

Bravas potatoe with spicy sauche
RECOMMENDED!!!

Garlic Shrimp - 5 Star - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Since tapas are tipically served as small portions this allows you to try a bit of everthing, which i did


The restaurant also has a store, you can buy the ham and chroizo and the olives they serve as appetizers, cheese and almost all wines on the menu.

Loved the wine and food. Service was very attentive and the Sunday Brunch is the best value for money/ quality brunch I have been to in a long time!! You can order 2 tapas dishes (to chose from about 6 dishes) and 1 egg dish either tortilla or broken eggs plus free flow of cava for 250.00 per person! When I went between 4 of us we tried all the tapas dishes and ordered only 2 egg dishes which was more than enough eventhough we were entiteles to 2 tapas each.

Will definately have to go back soon!!
题外话/补充资料： I suggest asking the owner for wine and tapas recommendations, very tipical spanish items and wines so if you are in doubt ask for a recommendation, you won´t miss out. The ham with the Pinot Noir Cava is unusual but amazing!! Must try!!

A friend of mine recommended me this restaurant because she knows I used to travel around Spain. I decided to try it out for dinner. We ordered paella and scallops with salad because she was on diet. The scallops fresh and enormous are the best I tried. And my paella, take me to Spain. The place have a cozy patio and the wine selection is a dream. Well I was transported to my Spanish holidays. It is real Spanish and the food, not modern or complicated.

One of the worst meals

This restaurant was recommended by a friend so I decided to try it out for lunch which turned out to be one of the worst meals I had for a long time. I booked a table for two hence there was no waiting time. The place is like a long alley and we were seated at the last table just before the entrance to the small courtyard. Service was lukewarm and we had to ask before two glasses of water were served.The menu contains mostly tapas and looks uninteresting so we decided to order 3 dishes to try

The menu contains mostly tapas and looks uninteresting so we decided to order 3 dishes to try them out first before ordering more to which turned out to be our smartest move.

1) Meat balls in tomato sauce ($60) - 3 of them in the size smaller then a ping pong ball, dry and tasteless.

 2) Galician octopus ($90) - completely tasteless and felt like chewing rubber. In the end, we asked for salt and lemon to spice up the taste but texture remained the same.

 3) Tortilla with chorizo ($70) - it turned out to be an oily egg omelet with chuck of tasteless chorizo inside. Traditional Spanish tortilla is like a thick omelet with potato, onion and egg infused with other ingredients such as chorizo or shrimps, etc, therefore we asked the waiter whether we had a wrong order but were flatly told that this is their version of a tortilla and if we wanted potato we should have ordered Tortilla with potato - what a joke!

 I didn't feel like having breakfast for lunch so we settled the bill quickly and walked down to Landale Street Wanchai for a bowl of delicious shrimp soup noodle with fish ball for $43 to polishing off our disappointing lunch at Plaza Mayor.

同很多第一次寫食評的OR用家一樣 實在是試咗一間很差的restaurant 不得不＂分享＂一下車泊响PP 就打算在星街一帶覓食啦平時食開的都full house 了 就決定試吓呢間新西班牙餐tapas點了calamari & garlic prawns/shrimp因為我哋只係兩個女仔所以蝦點了細portion...$70 sounded reasonable but 冇諗到只有3隻好唔好味就見人見志因為個人對食物要求真唔算高跟住叫了seafood paella (西班牙海鮮炒飯）哇鹹到嘔！ 尤其是D飯 索咗D味直情鹹到吞唔到Waitress收走烹飯時完全唔care個客冇食到This place still has A LOT of room for improvement!!

Authentic Spanish tapas in Hong Kong

Plaza Mayor has captured the real essence of Spanish tapas culture in Hong Kong. Tucked away on Moon Street, just off Star Street in northern Wanchai, this new little place is unpretentious and focuses on quality tapas and wine. The concept is that simple. The small restaurant has about 30 seating capacity and gets quite busy for lunch and dinner service, so do call in advance. Plaza Mayor has captured the real essence of Spanish tapas culture in Hong Kong. Tucked away on Moon Street, just off Star Street in northern Wanchai, this new little place is unpretentious and focuses on quality tapas and wine. The concept is that simple. The small restaurant has about 30 seating capacity and gets quite busy for lunch and dinner service, so do call in advance. They also do open for breakfast for office people around the area with fresh coffee and pastries. It has a small courtyard in the back that is very pleasant and a shop adjacent to the restaurant where you can purchase all the quality products like the ham (jamon iberico), spanish cheeses, chorizo and of course - the most important of all WINE. The wine in the shop has also about a 20% discount off retail price and you can find some excellent deals.

When you go you must try the gazpacho (very fresh and especially good in the summer, HK$60), croquetas filled with iberic ham (HK$60 small, HK$100 large portion), gambas al ajillo (garlic praws - although heavy on the garlic, but delicious HK$70 small, HK$120 large), fried chorizo (HK$60 for small portion, HK$100 for the large one) - a little spicy but full of flavour, and of course the jamon!!!! The ham is served with toasted bread with a bit of olive oil and tomato spread (between HK$100 - HK$540 depending on size of plate and quality of the ham). Also on the menu are paella (HK$250 for two) , salads and a few other tapas.

For drinks they have about 12 wines by the glass for a really decent price (HK$60-HK$120) and a fantastic dessert wine from a very special grape (Castano dulce HK$60 per glass). We drank a bottle of AVAN Naciniemto 2009 during our meal, an award winning tempranillo grapde wine from Ribera del Duero that is amazing price quality ratio for just HK$390.

Definitely will be back to work my way through the whole wine menu and more tapas!
