New York Main St. Deli雖然主要供應Pizza,三文治,Burger及小吃,裝修卻有Steak House的派頭,亦有可能是城中坐得最舒適的皮卡座,充滿奢華紐約風,會令人想起Sex of the City 或Gossip Girl中的埸景。今天烈日當空,熱得讓人中午飯也不太有胃口,故放工時便感到少許肚餓,叫了美式小食Buffalo Wings及Homemade Lemonade,貪其份量較少及不會讓人過飽,不會影響晚餐的進食。Buffalo Wings特色之處是把雞翼的肉退到一端,再折去其中一枝幼骨,故賣相像一朵小鬱金香,拿上手吃得十分方便,調味以cajun粉為主,偏咸了一點,辣味會在吃完雞翼後,才慢慢滲出來,不過也只是微辣,雞翼不像Dan Ryan般做得乾身惹味,不過Blue Cheese Dip就有驚艷感,用來點青瓜,西芹及甘筍條,令平時不太愛生吃蔬菜的我,因着幼滑芝士醬,一條不剩。酸酸甜甜的Homemade Lemonade在炎熱曰子,當然特別討好,但個人覺得甜味可調得淡些,而且味道也沒有什麼特色。外賣了Signature Cake New York Chee
太太最近開始投入工作,可以預期未來會有不少時候要暫時充當揍仔公了.....好像今天一般,兩仔爺在上完祟拜後,平常本是要到飯堂"趣屋"開飯的,但既然是由小弟揸fit的話,吃的地方固之然不會次次都這樣求其隨便....最後決意讓小友放肆一下,帶他去食平常他不大有機會去吃的junk food...而且不是甚麼麥記burgerking一類的地方,而是朗廷酒店basement裡的"Main St Deli"....小友的食力雖不能小看,但始終亦難已一個人KO一個burger的,故此兩人共享一份餐似乎是更為實際。若真的不夠吃的話,也就叫受一個沙律便可以....習慣上吃些侍者預先已端上來的酸椰菜及酸青瓜開開味蕾.....最後發現原來小友也不怕酸咪咪而搶着來吃,貪食之性格真是遺傳至我倆的基因....要了一杯橙汁,這是小友最愛喝的了。不過他剛好從咳嗽中康復過來,當然就不能讓他喝太多了....而這橙汁又真的甚是冰凍的,那就更要小心。說回這杯東西,除了夠凍之外還下了不少果肉在其中,很夠真材實料....半份size的凱撒沙律以生菜片為主,入口很爽夠新鮮;煙肉粒帶微焦香脆而鹹度也是;沙律醬汁則稍嫌太稀身有點"水"

Anyway I finally remembered this time and checked their website to see if it was still on. According to their website the Grilled cheese night is available until 30th April so I phoned Main Street Deli to make a reservation but they said the Grilled cheese night had finished last month (March). I was quite confused so I just assumed the website was not update but anyway I submitted an online enquiry to ask if the Grilled Cheese night was still on and I got confirmation through email that it was still on so I booked again.
I read the reviews again to see the best items to eat and found a similar issue that the staff thought the promotion has ended.

When I arrived, I was greeted by a lovely glass cabinet of cakes which were huge, the sofa chairs were like a classier version of the ones at Ed's Diner (a retro-American style diner). Sat down and browsed the menu. I was planning to order an item from the grilled cheese menu and a burger from the a la carte menu. The grilled cheese night set comes with a soup, grilled cheese solders and a sandwich. The choice for the grilled cheese sets was quite good but I would have preferred if the set contained sandwiches with all the different cheeses so you can sample them all or at least two different cheeses.
There were six choices: Croque Monsier: ham, gruyere, wilted spinach and mornay sauce Provolone, cured italian meats, olive, tomato and basil pesto in sourdough Cheddar cheese, shredded BBQ pork and caramelised onions Brie, smoked pork loin, rocket and jalapeno Mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, basil and balsalmic syrup in Italian sesanme oil Swiss cheese, avocado, sauteed mushrooms and roasted red peppers on multigrain Canadian bacon, stilton, and swiss cheese on light rye
all served with roasted tomato bisque with grilled cheese soldiers.
As I am not really a meat eater I was choosing between the croque monsieur and the Canadian bacon and in the end I chose the Canadian bacon.
For the burgers, it was hard choosing between the cod cake burger and the vegetarian burger coated with Matzoh, in the end I chose the cod cake burger.
I felt that there was no coating so the cod cake was nearly 100% cod with potatoes and herbs so when it was cooked, the surface of the cod cake was directly cooked giving it a delicious crispy tasty surface.
The sandwich was just delicious and the rye bread was fantastic because it had caraway seeds in it which gave it a distinct fragrant flavour and balanced out the heavyness of the bacon and cheese. The Stilton in the sandwich was nice because it made it cheesier. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Tomato soup:

I am a NY'er living in Hong Kong I know what a NY Deli is like and what the food should taste like. This was an inexcusably bad eating experience. While some of the food was just so-so or badly prepared, the one thing that I cannot excuse is the corned beef. This is one of THE defining sandwiches in a NY Deli and they could not have gotten it more wrong. I ordered a half sandwich of corned beef on light rye; my wife ordered the half soup, half sandwich. She chose the matzo ball soup and steak sandwich (I forget the exact title they give the sandwich). Our server (who was very pleasant and professional) asked how she would like it, and my wife replied medium rare. Our goddaughter ordered the bagel with salmon. Things went downhill fast when the food started to arrive. First came my wife's matzo ball soup. The matzo ball was light and fluffy, but lacked any flavor. The same was true of the soup, which traditionally should be a flavorful chicken broth. All three of us tasted it and came to the same conclusion: no flavor in either the soup or the ball. My HK Goddaughter even asked, "Is this kind of dish supposed to be so flavorless?" No, kiddo; it sure isn't! Then came the sandwiches. My wife's steak arrived medium to medium well. It was almost completely grey with a tiny hint of pink in the center. 'Not how she had ordered it! The worst offender was the corned beef. First let's deal with size. At 88 HKD and the name "NY Deli" printed on the menu, I expect a NY deli portion. This was a few strips of corned beef on a tiny half sandwich. Not NY sized, but certainly priced like it was! The part that made me send it back to the kitchen, though was the quality. I am not exaggerating when I say this was corned beef that could have come out of a plastic package hanging on a rack in a supermarket isle. Bright pink, paper-thin, boiled to the point of no flavor except salt. The texture and flavor was exactly what you would expect from a pack of discount meat at the supermarket you might use to make a child's school lunch. Outrageous. I asked the server over and told her, politely that this was unacceptable. She knew how to respond and offered me a different dish. I chose the mushroom barley soup, which proved to be acceptable quality (but nothing special). I think I may know what the underlying problem is: When our server came back to the table with the soup, she told me that she had spoken to the sous-chef and he said it was the supplier's fault. Oh, I see; you’re the sous-chef; but you don’t think you’re responsible for the quality of the food you serve! No wonder customers are complaining! Also, this tells me they don’t make their own corned beef. That’s INEXCUSABLE. I make my own corned beef, for goodness sakes; but you can’t be bothered? I would bet that the sous-chef simply ships in luncheon meat-quality corned beef and then serves this, hoping no one knows the difference. For the three of us, our meal was over 400 hkd. At those prices, you need better food and a sous-chef who takes responsibility for the food. I filled out a complaint card; we’ll see if I get an answer.
另外還吃了Cream Cheese Brownie with Profiteroles,$88,常吃的Brownie都是朱古力味,這個則是忌廉芝士口味。Brownie質感挺實卻不會硬實,入口不會乾身,餅身本身的忌廉酸香明顯,再加上面層的忌廉芝士令味道更為提升。中間夾著的四小球朱古力泡芙,泡芙就較為腍身,但整體味道來說都好吃。
7種芝士三文治當中,我選了Croque Monsieur, ham, gruyere, wilted spinach and mornay sauce,因為它的賣相最吸引,跟一般的三文治不一樣,是類似西多士的模樣,因為麵包的表面是沾過蛋漿再煎的,所以呈現出來的效果是淡黃色而且帶有一點焦焦的感覺,單是外表已經十分吸引。一口咬下去,質感真的很鬆軟,配上半溶的芝士、火腿和菠菜,帶有一點水份,一點也不乾,真的非常好吃﹗芝士的份量真的很慷慨,原本還擔心芝士加上火腿會過咸,但吃下去完全沒有這個問題,咸度剛好,因為gruyere cheese本身是帶有一點甜味的芝士,所以加上火腿的咸香就配合得非常好,份量多一點也不會有問題,反而更能吃到那種半溶的口感。整體來說十分好吃,簡直捨不得把它吃完,如果菠菜的份量多一點會更完美﹗

Fine - we told the manager that we will order enough alacarte to make up for the minimum charge for 8 adults. Because we only had 8 paying adults, the manager insisted that they will need to take away one table to squeeze us onto 3 tables (even though the restaurant was half empty). So 16 people were squashed into 3 tables when there were so many empty tables everywhere.
Salad and soup are generally quite good. The portion of daily chop salad is very large, with generous portion of chicken and lettuce. The kids love the chicken noodle soup. They also love the strawberry milkshakes there.
We ordered the speical Blue Ribbon Burger and the Monster Burger. We asked for medium but they came out burnt. The only good part is the melted cheese.
We also ordered pizza and pasta for the kids. The portions are very big, the taste is very ordinary.
As we are a few hundred dollars short of the minimum charge, we all ordered the famous huge slices of cakes there.The chocolate black forest cake was divine. The lime cake is a bit too sour and the cheese cake is okay.
We were told that so long as we pay $800 we should get a free parking. The bill came up to $3200, which should be enough to cover 4 cars. However, the manager insisted that each table can only get 2 cars free parking. So with four cars each car would only get 1 hour free, and the other hour is $50 each. So we ended up paying $50 to $100 parking per car. It is absolutely ridiculous that we paid over $3000 and get one hour free parking! The extra parking fee is a lot extra for having a mediocre meal.
So no wonder the restaurant is always half empty even though the food is good! If you are driving, never come in a big group, split into small tables to get parking. Very bad experience, so I will not come again even with a Langham card!

Caesar salad: This salad was wayyyyy too fishy. I understand that having some anchovies will add to the flavor, but it smelled and tasted like someone left a dead fish on the lettuce . The salad was overdressed and soggy.
Bacon swiss burger: At first glance, the burger is huge! and it is. I couldn't finish the entire thing. But after several bites, I noticed the beef patty was a little odd. The texture was different. After a close inspection, the beef was not ground beef. Instead, it was chopped up beef. I don't know about you, but I prefer a traditional ground up beef patty. Plus, the beef patty was over seasoned. Too much rosemary! It masked the flavor of the beef.
The total came out to be over $600 for an app, a salad, a burger, and a glass of house wine. Definitely not worth the value.
Overall, a failed attempt at making American food. I will not visit this place again.
早前朋友從外國回來,相約來Main St. Deli吃漢堡包及甜品,侍應先吃送來醃青瓜及酸菜,超愛吃酸的我,這酸椰菜實在太合我口味,口感爽脆,酸度適中,吃著也令人開胃先來吃Buffalo Wings,$78,雞鎚肉已反起離骨,炸起來收縮成球狀,一口咬下已經離骨。鮮橙色的醬汁掛於雞鎚上,但未完全鋪滿雞肉表面。入口辣味慢慢滲出,不算很辣,外表微脆,內裡雞肉也算軟腍,不過肉味較淡。再點些藍芝士醬來吃,也跟上蘿蔔、青瓜、西芹條及生菜,吃點來平衡雞鎚的油膩。Mexican Burger,牛肉扒混著辣腸,吃起來有點過熟,若生一點,肉汁會更豐盛,口感也會更好。而這個辣味不太濃郁,吃著也有芝香,跟上不少炸薯條,也會吃得飽。甜品先是Brioche French Toast,多士則感十分軟腍,也有蛋香,但味道可再濃一點更好,吃著又不太甜。最後三款蛋糕,Lemon and Meringue,檸檬餡料挺酸,味道自然,配合柔柔的蛋白層,口感不錯,但底層則太硬,影響了蛋糕質感。Oreo Cheesecake,芝士味道濃郁,內裡有不少Oreo碎餅,口感也挺滑,不過會吃得很甜溜。Caramel Vanilla Lay
