A quick search on Openrice for private kitchens yields too many choices these days, and some slap on the word "private" just so they can avoid getting license from various government departments, which I don't blame them. But this place still retained the intimate and cozy dining atmosphere while serving up food that is more Western than the localised version. But this place still retained the intimate and cozy dining atmosphere while serving up food that is more Western than the localised version. The window sill was full of knick knacks and other decorative bits, but the place did not feel caustrophobic despite being housed in an old residential building in Wan Chai.

There were lots to choose from, but unfortunately the only options for oysters were the Irish rock and Gillardeau. Both were very fresh, brimming with briny sea water that required only a dash of lemon juice to slide down the throat. And it was buy 2 get 1 free! The Perrier Jouet rose was a nice accompanying bubbly to the oysters.

For appetisers we had the parma ham with melon, the foie gras, and the smoked salmon and asparagus wrap. All 3 were nicely executed, of a hearty portion, and the flavours were well balanced with nice decorative touches on the side.

The onion soup was oozing of melted cheese with a nice fat piece of baguette underneath, and the soup itself was full of flavours without being overly seasoned. It's always a shame when they ruin the soup by putting too much salt in. Then a refreshing sorbet came and went in a jiffy.

The mains we shared were the confit du canard which was highly recommended by our waiter as a signature dish, the poached halibut and the duck breast. The duck leg was very meaty and juicy and was delightful with a bite of beetroot to even out the slight oiliness. The halibut was tender (which can be overcooked and tough at times), and the foil wrap ensured all the goodness of the juices were sealed in and kept the fish moist and soft. The duck breast was a slight disappointment as it was a touch undercooked and had chewy stringy bits in the meat, which meant I had to unceremoniously hide the "cud" quietly in the leftover foil from the fish.

Desserts were apple crumble and a fondant au chocolate which I haven't taken pictures of as my guests had already dug into them eagerly before I had a chance. Both exclaimed in delight at the loveliness of it, which I presume meant 2 thumbs up.

Minimum spending is $340 (very easy to achieve), no service charge or corkage fees, and they also have a 4 course dinner menu for $400 whereby you can still pick out dishes you want from the limited version of the a la carte menu.

同在灣仔番工的朋友無意中搵到呢間餐廳, 話去食lunch唔貴又有特色, 所以訂了台完全估佢唔到o係舊式大廈到有間呢類餐廳, 一入到去, 裝修都高檔同埋優雅, 不錯, 在QRE plaza也有幾間類似的餐廳如果夜晚一PAIR情侶黎咁係幾適合拍拖架~我們較早, 12點半已到, 沒有人, 有都係零星幾個入黎, 在這種環境下, 氣氛是不錯的 (p.s我唔係諗住燭光晚餐, 我的朋友有男有女, 但成個環境唔覺得嘈, 可以傾閒計)差不多到一點才有其他客人, 都可以坐滿, 但係.................好多黎既都係附近OL , 唉...原來當女人坐埋一齊, 真係好嘈!!!!!!!!!!! 我們較早, 12點半已到, 沒有人, 有都係零星幾個入黎, 在這種環境下, 氣氛是不錯的 (p.s我唔係諗住燭光晚餐, 我的朋友有男有女, 但成個環境唔覺得嘈, 可以傾閒計)

主菜 , 我本想食肉眼扒, 但想到會肥, 放棄左, 叫左個焗魚, 朋友叫羊
個焗住上黎, 打開................我呆左, 賣相好唔美觀, 好似雜草一堆咁.....

今年的第一餐聖誕大餐 來到餐廳樓下便心感不妙....
偏僻而且冷清的舊式大廈?!
看到餐廳的盧山真面目後 第一時間便想"D野食真係掂先好呀下"
桌子面積小 沒有漂亮的景觀 裝修也不特別 只有柔和的燈光和數目繁多的擺設.

兩個聖誕大餐包括:
1) Bread backet
香軟鬆脆 但沒有什麼特別

2) Appetizer

Pan-fried Australian Scallop Served with Mixed Salad
香煎南澳帶子伴田園沙律

  這個作為開胃菜有令我surprise! 帶子鮮味十足 厚身又鮮美 配上伴碟的沙律 真的比我預期好

唯一不足的地地方可能是 表面還可以煎香一點!

3) Soup

Beef Morel Mushroom Consomme Soup
牛肝菌牛肉清湯

我只係飲左一啖 唔好怪我直言 我覺得好似豉油溝熱水....

Seafood Chowder
海鮮周打魚湯

味道都算鮮美 材料亦算豐富 只係普通左D....

4) Main Course

Charcoal Grilled Beef Tenderioin & Foie Gras Served with Cepes Cream Sauce
炭燒牛柳併鵝肝配牛肝菌濃汁

我要mediun rare 都燒得幾好 肉味濃而且充滿肉汁 反而鵝肝就煎得未夠甘香 而且我本身比較中意鵝肝配水果做既醬汁 口感會比較清爽.

Foached Australian Emperor Fillet & King Prawn with Lemon Butter Sauce
水煮澳洲皇帝魚拼大蝦配檸檬牛油汁

皇帝魚非常軟滑 配配檸檬牛油汁 簡單得黎又唔會搶去魚既鮮味 大蝦肉質爽甜 沒有其他感覺.

I dun really remember the name of it....it's like some of cranberry cheese cake.
食番D酸酸甜甜既甜品做ending都唔錯 但係普通得濟......

Overall黎講我覺得地方太細 場內有間VIP房即使已經柵左門都係聽到好嘈 咩氣氛都無曬.....
食物有好有唔好 但對我黎講都係悶! 我覺得咁既價位可以再做好D
侍應人手唔太夠 服務唔算太周到....
燈光同裝飾都算cozy 但我覺得無相入面咁靚囉....
因為唔滿意今餐 所以下一篇都會係聖誕大餐

this was the third time i went to La Maison. it's not perfect but i still like it!it's tue night so there's live band. lovely! the drawback was the re-arrangement of tables made it rather crowded...manager Joe was very hospitable. a warm welcome by him and staff.back to the food, i love their warm bread!!! could stuff myself just by eating those~~ the pate & herb butter took them from YUM to YYYYUUUUMMMMM and their salad is also one of my all time favorite. love the dressing, made me clean up ev

back to the food, i love their warm bread!!! could stuff myself just by eating those~~ the pate & herb butter took them from YUM to YYYYUUUUMMMMM

and their salad is also one of my all time favorite. love the dressing, made me clean up even the olives (i don't like olives and usually pick them out and put on the side)!

actually, i like their appetizers. we had parma ham w/ melon, escargot, foie gras & salad. all were yummy. my parents and hubby liked them~~

no complains on crab bisque and oyster chowder at all! btw, i like their french onion soup (from last time) too!

sorbet was melted when served, well, only 3 staff for 5 tables (1 with a party of 10-12, didn't count) and 2 parties in the 2 private rooms, guess they were to busy to deliver the dishes in time... taste-wise, i personally like the citrus (lime?) sorbet better.

seafood platter was good, as were the mains: veal rack, duck confit and baked fish.

a surprise birthday cake (cheesecake w/blueberry sauce) came with Joe and band singing me a birthday song!! (while we're still having our mains tho', so there were a little hectic on the table. =p)

other desserts came later: pear poached in red wine & orange, apple crumble & dark cherry clafoutis. always enjoy their desserts, still yet to try them all. but then i like these 3 so much that i don't want to give them up every time i come... (i'd better bring more people next time to share, then i can have these 3 AND some other ones! hehe)

coffee was fair. aroma was a little weak. we like that they serve it with warm milk, that's always a plus!

i wish they will keep up their yummy job, the hospitable service and be able to expand and to a roomier place soon.


a place to have a good time! (oh, they basically let you hang around for as long as you want! unless there're reservations coming up and they need your table. a big PLUS!!)

Scallop and green salad was the first dish. There are 2 big pieces of whole scallop. They are probably from frozen produce, but still there is a sweetness to it. Very nice!

Soup and Main Course: 2 kinds of soup and 3 main courses to choose from. Nine of us divided and conqurered, we tried everything on the special menu.

I personally like the beef and porcini consumme the best. It's served piping hot lots of finely chopped veggie in the soup, making it very tasty and fresh.


The others went for seafood chowder, they said 合格。

On main dish, Grilled Steak (fillet) and foie gras was the winner. Everyone loved it. The foie gras maintained the standard from what I remember from last visit.


I was a bit disappointed when I found out we choose our dessert; as I miss "cheery cloufitis" very much... the server told us the dessert was blueberry mousse cake. It looked quite generic and I was doubtful, but decided to give it a try. And... YUM... it's not too sweet and have a slight sour taste that gives you a kick, it's surprisingly refershing and delicious after a heavy dinner. Without any surprise, my family cleaned their plates!

My mom had a big smile on her face, I know she liked my choice

Foie Gras was burned seriously and covered at the back side. The Chef was so shamed of it !

First off, I have to give special mention to Joseph, who handled my ever-changing booking requests (due to a large party) with efficiency and a smile. It left a very favorable impression even before stepping into the restaurant, where we were greeted warmly and shown into their large private room which comfortably seats 12 people. First off, I have to give special mention to Joseph, who handled my ever-changing booking requests (due to a large party) with efficiency and a smile. It left a very favorable impression even before stepping into the restaurant, where we were greeted warmly and shown into their large private room which comfortably seats 12 people.

To start, we ordered a bottle of pinot noir (lovely, for a very well-priced $480) and zinfandel (I didn't try it, but the table liked it). Someone noted that for a French restaurant, there was only 1 bottle of French wine on the wine list, to which I pointed out that most people would probably take advantage of the no corkage fee to BYOB.

Bread basket wasn't great - very ordinary dinner rolls and lacklustre slices of baguette - and didn't really do justice to the lovely pate and herb butter that was served.

The food menu is similar enough to Le Marron (my go-to casual French private kitchen), which left room for comparison. The menu is divided into appetizers, soups, mains, and desserts...lots of choice, so between 7 of us, we had a decent sampling of everything. Here's a summary of what we thought:

- A real shame we had to return the order of mussels steamed in white wine...I'm sure they would've been yummy. The mussels smelled like they'd gone off...not so fresh shellfish = very dangerous...c'mon people!

- My French friend really enjoyed his starter of a generous round of Camembert in a fondue pot for 1, with a lovely little selection of fruit. Simple and delicious.

- My starter of Escargot de Baroque (snails w/ garlic butter & potato puree) was good, but not spectacular.

- The Crab Bisque had really good crab flavor...a bit thinner for a bisque than I'd like, but it's a personal preference. I did like the fact that it wasn't weighed down by too much cream, and the others who ordered it agreed.

- As a palate refresher before the mains arrived, we were served homemade berry sorbet, but it was more like a berry granito than a sorbet because of its grainy texture. Also, it wasn't quite the right flavor to "refresh"...something a bit tangier would've worked better.

- I love Confit de Canard- my favorite is the one served at Chez Patrick - and rarely pass on a chance to order it in restaurants. La Maison's version is a decent one...not the best I've ever had, but certainly not the worst by far. Despite being slightly dry at the edges, which is my #1 dread when ordering this dish, I didn't mind it so much as 95% of the duck leg was cooked perfectly...moist juicy flesh with a crispy skin. The cabbage salad was a nice complement as well. I do wish they'd drizzled a bit more sauce on the plate as whatever it was (berries again maybe?) worked well with the duck and cabbage.

- Undercooked whole baby potatoes that were served as a side to a few main dishes.

- Banana Creme Brulee is a nice idea, but while sufficiently banana-y, it was a bit too sweet. Could've used a hint of vanilla as well to balance it out.

- French Fudge Chocolate Cake is basically a molten chocolate cake...way too sweet, and the cake had already collapsed - with chocolate insides spilling all over - in the short walk from oven to table. Poor execution.

To cap it all off, while I'm generally a big fan of simplicity and wasn't really expecting anything overly imaginative from La Maison's menu, it is ever so important to make sure that food is seasoned and cooked properly. Sounds simple enough, but unfortunately these were probably two of La Maison's biggest failings last night food-wise. I'd return if only to give them a second shot at redeeming themselves...perhaps it was an off night?

服務態度惡劣,食物水平普通,高不成低不就。以這價錢的收費真令人失望。一d都冇驚喜,驚嚇就有佢份. 因為很久冇同朋友食飯, 唸住呢間係openrice有不錯的評語. 於是call 4個朋友到此一聚. 可能我哋太excited la....,當order時, 個waiter竟然薯我哋收聲
其實可以客氣啲
叫我哋安靜ka ma...當收碟時, 仲串個客唔好噤大動作, 又中頭獎就唔好啦. 一句sorry都冇.
以下係本人對呢餐既意見:

My best buddy and I have a tradition of trying out new restaurant each time we meet. We would take turn to arrange for dinner. This time she proudly told me she would have a nice surprise for me. My best buddy and I have a tradition of trying out new restaurant each time we meet. We would take turn to arrange for dinner. This time she proudly told me she would have a nice surprise for me. We shall see...

She knows I'm lazy to travel, so she picked this French restaurant in my neighbourhood. The decor gives a warm and homey feel, the seats are roomy enough. I felt very comfortable.

My buddy has been here once, so she recommended we share the "Signature Dinner" and try other dishes. As she is a big fan of seafood, so the "other dishes" are seafood platter, half dozen oyster and deep fried frog leg!


And the Signature Dinner includes Foie Gras, Crab Bisque, Confit (Duck Leg) and Cherry Claufoutis (YUM YUM)

Seafood platter consists of 麵包蟹 (according to our waiter, it's called Edible crab), whelk, clams and a good amount of shrimp. They all very fresh, but Edible crab was our favorite, there is so much yolk and it goes very well with the 3 kinds of homemade sauce that comes with the dish.

The oysters are freshly arrived from France. It was good, it's just a bit too salty for my personal taste.

Foie Gras was served with some mixed berry and just a splash of sauce. It was a great match - the foie gras tasted so good, I really didn't want to share with my buddy


Frog leg was lightly-battered and the pesto based sauce give the dish a nice touch.

Crab bisque was good.

Confit (duck leg) was excellent! The duck leg lay on top of a bed of "red cabbage", the skin was thin and crispy, yet the meat remained very juicy and tender. We cleaned the plate.

Before dessert was served, the live band started playing jazz, and later on a lady came on and sang some classics. My buddy knows I love live music, this is truly a surprising addition to our wonderful girls night out!
(The waiter told us they will have live music every Tuesday night, and the band plays a mix of jazz and modern classics.)

Just when I thought I don't have any room left for dessert, the waiter brought out Cherry Claufoutis (hot dish).... Whao, it smells like freshly baked cake just coming out of the oven... we are chowing again


One thing worths mentioning - there is no corkage fees. Of course we took advantage of that and brought our own wine.

All in all, it was an enjoyable night - good company, good food, good music.

I would come back to try other dishes

早幾日同朋友想搵個好地方傾嘢順道食餐好嘅...睇介紹覺得呢間法國菜唔錯...所以即管嚟試吓。麵包配合自家製嘅特色牛油...真係唔錯...食吓一個...食吓一個...差啲就咁就食飽咗...哈~朋友點嘅磨菇湯...香、濃...飲到最後一啖都仲係一樣溫熱、好味...驚喜!比起我點嘅洋蔥湯出色。主菜...朋友點嘅安格斯牛...好味,口感相當唔錯,但略嫌肉汁不足。我點嘅羊扒比較好,香但唔太羶。甜品...紅酒燴梨...清甜...好味...必食!!

。五成熟既羊鞍,理應食得出澳洲羊既鮮味…但令人失望…唔好講羶味、連羊肉味都無,令人質疑此羊既出處同新鮮度… 再講個汁…既無紅酒味,亦無大蒜味…
可以講除了個presentation外,最值得欣賞既只係其份量,因有三舊均等size既羊鞍。

澳洲肉眼扒:Once again 成份主菜既presentation 好吸引人… 但味道、質素比羊鞍更惡劣… 肉眼扒淡而無味、well done同多根、柴皮… 友人不禁講:「我寧可多比$30去lx bons食囉…」

總括而言:可能係lunch hour 忙,餐廳未能做到去問每個客人份扒要幾成熟,又或是我孤陋寡聞,唔主動問客人食幾成熟先係正宗既法國私房菜~~
但如果你唔可以接受五成熟羊鞍或well done牛扒,請早揚聲。餐廳食物質素唔提升的話,只怕單靠貼心服務、雅致裝潢、免收加一 同nice presentation,未能長撐落去!
順帶一提,呢度既餐包最令我滿意。

餐廳很體貼安排工作人員在樓下接持,不會找不到位置。一早到還未滿座,坐下的感覺良好,地方不大但裝飾別緻。可惜當坐滿人,大家一同說話時,實在太吵耳了,這裡不是一個談心的地方。食物方面,落單要西冷扒。可能因為太吵的關係,溝通出現問題,大家都要側住頭聽對方說話,來回數次才聽清楚。故此工作人員並無提及西冷扒要多成熟。結果來了個全熟的,實在難以下嚥,多根,乾柴,相信就算七成熟都不會好食。不過賣相相當美觀,可以参照其他食評的相片。咖啡味道香濃,不過一貫不能同茶餐廳的"熱"咖啡相比,要快飲,否則很快變室溫咖啡。

食完TOTAL用左兩粒鐘時間, 埋單好似有少少唔夠每人340 =P 但係因為生日所以就無所謂..
下次去食DINNER實要叫多個APPETIZER或者DESSERT XDD
有機會真係去試埋佢個LUNCH SET !! ^^
