I was looking for a place to dine at Sha Tin area, and saw many options in this area. Had a craving for slightly sour/spicy food and thus Thai food... Seen a lot of mixed reviews about this. The fact remains that majority still votes this outlet as good, but noticed recent ones are negative, thus venturing that to witness for myself.Being a Chinese whom has traveled around Asia quite a bit, and have been visiting Thailand for the last 17 years, I find this outlet has brought the food authenti
Being a Chinese whom has traveled around Asia quite a bit, and have been visiting Thailand for the last 17 years, I find this outlet has brought the food authenticity (minus the Thailand food ambiance, and culture) plus some degree of fusion to appease the local HK taste buds. I'm not exactly sure why the recent reviews are working against the joint but I truly feels it deserves some justice. Enough of justification here, and allow me to jump right into the review.
My girlfriend and I ordered 4 dishes, and there was a promotion of a free "Roasted Pork Tender Salad" for above HKD250 and paying with a certain credit card... so we had an extra dish.
Dish #0 - Roasted Pork Tender Salad (complimentary)
Dish #1 - Tom Yam Soup with vegetable & mushrooms
Dish #2 - Curry Combo (which #2.1 is red curry with fish slices, #2.2 is green curry + apple with chicken)
Dish #3 - Thai-styled sushi-maki with soft shell crab
Dish #4 - Beef Rack with glutinous rice
* 1 extra bowl of plain rice
The complimentary salad was solid, it is fragrance, yet light and not oily (and i suspect they have used olive oil sparingly)... very appetizing and making sure our stomach is ready for the good food ahead.
Tom Yam Soup was served. I find the spiciness exactly right for me (but native Thais might find it slightly weak, but here is HK and I think the chef/cook has got it just right), portion-wise, just right for 2 persons if you are ordering 3-5 dishes. And I can call it a meal just with a bowl of soup + rice.
Curry Combo, let me comment about the red curry with fish slices, its simply fantastic, the fish is so fresh, and cooked right, never was it overcook. Perfect, the curry is obviously cooked from the scratch and not those 'instant curry' which most cafe uses in HK that tastes powdery. The green curry + apple with chicken is another good dish, the chicken meat is really tender, and i have tasted chicken meat so good in HK before. Its like the Hainanese chicken meat in Singapore. This is another dish that people can eat it alone with 2-3 bowls of rice.
Thai-styled sushi-maki with soft shell crab, was above average for me, as I probably prefer something heavier on its taste because the first few dishes are heavy on my taste buds. However, if this dish was served at the front-end, the result might be different. It came with 2 types of sauce, which I just cannot figure out it maybe the curry at the front was overwhelming. The portion was generous, and was presented well on the serving plate.
the best is the Beef rack which we asked for 70% cooked, which i felt it was very close to perfection. A good meat, blends very well with glutinous rice, cabbage and house-made sauce. Its just tender, nice smell, very tasteful and presented on a banana leave which influence my taste bud to 8 out of 10.
Some much for the food, and let's move on to the environment and service. Environment is ideal for casual dining or group dining due to its open-concept sitting arrangements with the furniture colors promoting good appetite. Service was excellent, as we're initially seated for a table for 2 persons but when we requested for a better table due to the sizes of food ordered, the staffs immediately obliged and acted swiftly. Waiter, waitress, supervisors & managers are very responsive, efficient & effective. Tip-Top I would say for the services, which includes refilling water at the first glance, clearing plates and politely asking for permission to do so. Very impressed for this type of attitude from the young to mature workers at this joint. Hygiene, was great, stainless on utensils by far and serving plates are obviously cleaned properly prior to serving it on our dining table. Price-wise, not the cheapest, but for an environment like this at Shatin New Plaza, i believe it is really value for money, and given the quality of food, I have no complains.
I don't expect all reviewers to agree with my assessment, but please let your comments and I will be most glad to respond in true faith. Happy dining!
