Tung Chung finally gets the bar/restaurant it has been starving for all these years. It only took a decade and a half.
Dining experiences in general in the Tung Chung area have been severely limited for many years. In fact, many long time TC residents, especially locals, will travel outside of TC for their dining needs, so few have their options been in the past, most notably for competent Western / Fusion food.
Along comes aTavola in March of 2018 and suddenly the local TC dining and social landscape is significantly less bleak. Geez, why did it take so long?
The very first thing one experiences when entering aTavola for the first time is the sensation that one has suddenly been transported far away from Tung Chung - from its triple high ceilings, huge western style, fully-stocked bar, to incredibly comfortable. spacious seating areas, aTavola is a tastefully decorated feast for the eyes, reminiscent of finer establishments on HK island, TST and elsewhere. Exotic Mediterranean / Middle Eastern decor is not garishly over the top yet still is wonderfully inviting and visually interesting.
Oh and there are top quality live music cover bands on the weekends, complete with a dance floor along with a massively gorgeous super-HI RES video wall.
Also regularly featured are professional Belly dancers, various Ladies Night events, promotions for aviation personnel, some incredibly generous Happy Hour pricing [Grey Goose cocktails for less than 50HKD!] and a gloriously comfortable, fully air-conditioned [and heated in winter] outdoor seating and dining area. And just for good measure, they also offer Tung Chung's first authentic Shisha experience.
Yeah, that's right - all that is in now in TUNG CHUNG.
Run by a group of experienced HK F&B investors, aTavola gets top marks for all the things one hopes and expects in a bar/restaurant of its ilk - friendly, welcoming staff, super-responsive floor managers and a kitchen that consistently delivers above average, reasonably priced casual dining food.
From great burgers and sandwiches, properly al dente, delicious pastas and pizzas [the Meat Lasagna in particular] all the way to more exotic offerings like Lamb and Seafood Tangine, Tomahawk Steaks and wonderful Hummus and other Middle Eastern fare, the menu at aTavola has been carefully crafted to satisfy nearly every diner. If you can't find something to like at aTavola, you're just a grouch and are better off staying home.
This review is a bit gushing, yes. But then again, you probably haven't ever lived in Tung Chung have you?
Is aTavola the greatest bar restaurant in all of Hong Kong? Don't be ridiculous.
But what it does offer is Tung Chung's first, legitimate full-on, full-service, full-fun dining, drinking and entertainment experience. Something that Tung Chung has been starved of for far too long.
For a super-fun, well-executed, professionally-managed, reasonably priced casual Western dining and bar experience along with wonderful and unique value-added entertainment and amenities thrown in to boot, for the moment at least, you absolutely can't go wrong at aTavola.
No need to believe me - go see and check it out for yourself.
