2010-0415 ThursdayWell, I must have to share with all of the readers. Last week in Thursday I made a reservation for a catering in India Club at 24 Gascoigne Road Jordan gathering with almost 40 peoples of my school classmates and having fun in there on that night. We started at 6PM in India Club on the 2nd floor. We ordered the food such as curry shrimp, lamb, chicken, cheese, bread, vegetables, especially the curry fired rice .....etc. The food was very good having its own taste and the waiters are so nice providing good services. After the dinner we played with music inside of this restaurant, some of them went out to the balcony to have a smoke over there. This place gave me felt I was at a private club, a nice decoration with some Indian style accessories and also can provide a good accommodation. We almost gone at 11:45pm, the price are reasonable for the total sum of HK$6,000.00 provided with drinks, food and a good accommodation.By the way I notice that this club also have barbeque (BBQ), I think I will arrange again in the next gathering. You may click into this the website: www.9dcateringhk.com to look at it.Finally, my comment to this restaurant is Good and Perfect. 继续阅读

Consider it a prejudiced cuisine here in Hong Kong, I am astounded by the fact that many turn their noses away from Indian cuisine because of false beliefs that 1) everything is curry, 2) everything is fiery hot, 3) everything taste funny (not a compliment), and 4) you MUST eat with your hand. With so many curry houses and MESSES in the city, I have never encountered one that forces you to do anything you're not willing to do it yourself. Curry houses are rather forgiving when it comes to newbies who know little about their food, and most of them have Chinese menus anyways (despite the frequent mentions of 'curry' confuses most diners). Taj Mahal, tucked away inside the India Club, is a place to start with the basics. The first floor of the India Club is an enlarged dining room with patio area for alfresco parties. Taj Mahal is run by a catering company which also offers party deals. We arrived at noon on a saturday only to realize that the dining room we were led to was poorly ventilated and looked like it hasn't been used since the last Openrice reader reviewed it (3 years ago). The waiter greeted us and seated us, promptly offering water and shuffling the menu. Ordering wasn't a problem, it's all the basics. 1. Samosas (Pastries with curry filling)2. Chicken Korma (Chicken in mild curry sauce with saffron and cashews)3. Palak Paneer (Indian Cheese curds cooked in spiced spinach puree)4. Rogan Josh Lamb (Slow cooked lamb chunks in fiery sauce)5. Naan bread 6. A lunch set of Chicken Tikka (rounded out with soup, appetizer and a drink) As soon as we surrendered our menus, we realized the presence of ants (dead and alive ones) on our table linens. The waiter noticed our little visitors too... He promptly apologized and swapped the new linens, and pretended nothing has ever happened. Maybe we have come at a wrong time, it took half an hour for our orders to arrive. We were getting on our feet ready to jet when the waiter wheeled in a small cart with our food, steaming hot. Samosas are fried crispy with a thin dough, with a scrumptious filling of cubed potatoes and pigeon peas. Appropriately spicy with potent notes of cumin and mustard seeds. The samosas are textbook-perfect, or as my Indian friends will make at home on any given family festivities. (maybe without the peas though). Chicken Korma is the best among three hot dishes. Chicken tenders are moist and soft, as promised on the menu. The creamy sauce is made with plenty of cream and ground cashews, adding saffron for the golden hue. Palak Paneer is surprisingly good. When you order PANEER elsewhere it's inevitable to come rubeery like pencil erasers, but not this one. It tasted mildly milky and tasted like a firmer tofu. Do not hesitate to dig in even though the deep greeness may set off a few alarms here. The spinach is minced, and cook to this consistency, not pureed or anything. Rogan Josh, however, was a disappointment. The lamb chunks are cooked through just fine, offering a fine gamey flavour, except that the sauce is a spiced oil that is neither fiery nor a sauce. I've had rogan josh before many times and this resembled nothing of that sort. Naan is crusty and moist at the same time, perfect for mopping up the Korma and Palak sauces. A biryani is also a good alternative, but again, nothing beats Indian breads with curries. You can forget Chicken Tikka as well, it's dry and come in bite-sized...accompanied by a tangy sauce that reminded me of Satay Peanut sauce with excessive amount of tamarind and skip the peanuts. Overall the experience was ok. The waiting time is certainly depriving Taj Mahal from making this experience a spectacular. The waiter (there is only one) is friendly enough, and service is prompt, if you don't mind the wait, and some Bollywood music will round out additions to the otherwise quiet-to-the-pin-drop ambience of Taj Mahal. Be sure to stop by the peuter box breath-fresheners after you're done.
