This place has a lot of positive comments on openrice and has been on the top of the list of sheung wan restaurant. I therefore decided to come and have a try.
I understand that this place is small but popular should no doubt you will have to queue (tried to make a booking but they said they will only take 2 reservations for each time slot so we tried our luck by walk-in)
When we arrived, there was a free table which the staff said it's reserved and asked us to wait outside the restaurant....which is not air-con (terrible for a day with such hot weather). The table was left unseated for at least half an hour! Finally, there is a couple leaving and we thought we will get seated. The staff however said that table is also reserved...for another time slot. I asked them so how many tables are reserved and is it very unlikely they will have free tables for walk-in. They pointed another 2 tables and said those are reserved as well (apparently we have waited for so long that another time slot is upcoming as well), and told us that we can only wait for the other tables. I saw some tables had finished their food but the staff had no intension to clean them up and people are just still kept chatting.
I understand it's a popular place now and it's difficult to get a seat without booking but the way of how they manage it is terrible. I think it's just non-sense to hold the table for bookings which are late for like 30 mins while you have a super long queue waiting outside. I waited for an hour and none of us at the queue got a seat!
I gave up at the end. I wanted to just leave but my friend insisted we should get two cups of green tea as takeaway. We had iced matcha for takeaway. I think we waited around 10 mins for the takeaway which is ok.
I would say the drinks just average...not THAT good! The green tea taste is lighter than I expected (given the nice strong green tea smell at the shop, I expected the drinks be rich). To me, it's smiliar to the one I tried at Gindaco.
Their desserts maybe better (I peeked at the cupboard and they look nice) but I think there are many places that are good for afternoon tea and here doesn't worth coming back. To me, with such service and way to manage the place, this will just override the good part (supposed the food are good...according to the comments here)...
