Easy Joe is a place I've seen on various social media places. It had food with eyes. Not real eyes but googly eyes. And I was sold. Nagging boyfriend, we went to find it. And it seemed we weren't the only ones. It was busy with a lot of people making reservations. It's a good thing we got there once it opened so we could get a table! Menu is in English and Chinese except for this steak menu which is in Chinese only. But then there is a photo so you can pretty much figure it out. The menu is concise and to the point. They serve "American" food. Or what they believe to be "American". As boyfriend is actually American, we always figure it will be fusion. And yes, it was. They didn't offer dinner sets so we just ordered a couple of mains and drinks.
I decided to get an Easy Joe Chocolate ($48). I looked around and it seemed every table had one. They also offer a matcha white chocolate variety. But I wanted chocolate. Served in a bottle, the chocolate milk was thick and rich. Not too sweet but a wonderful deep chocolate taste.
Boyfriend had the Lemon Tea Frappe ($48). A very large glass was placed in front of him. Topped with a bit of cream, this was a refreshing drink with a fragrant taste of tea and the sharpness of lemon.
For the mains we shared and had Chicken and Waffles ($148). The ultimate American classic among the African American community. But this was a lot different than the ones we've had as it's usually just waffles, fried chicken and lots of pancake syrup. Here it wasn't the case. It was instead topped with a mustard onion sauce and a runn sunny side egg. You still get the gooey stickiness and a mixture of sweet and salty. The waffles were crisp but the star was the chickent. Well seasoned. The meat was juicy. The coating was crunchy.
American Beef Cheeseburger with Mushrooms ($148) is the one with the eyes. And it was cute! A rich slathering of melted cheese on top of a very moist and tender patty that wasn't over cooked. The bun was a soft sweet brioche that was lightly toasted. There was a tangy burger sauce and crisp lettuce. There was generous serving of crispy fries.
We still had room for dessert so we shared a Matcha Lava Cake with Genmaicha Ice Cream ($88). Again the googly eyes made it even more cute! You get a choice of matcha or genmaicha ice cream so we chose genmaicha. A fairly good choice as it was fragrant and counterbalanced the bitterness from the matcha.
The lava flowed out very well. The sauce was a rich bitter matcha taste. The cake was spongy. And yes, the eyes were super cute. It was all decorated with fresh blueberries.
The food was good and not just created just for the cuteness. Service is fast so do expect to be out the door by 90 minutes as there is a line outside waiting for a table.
