This is a relatively quiet place with some interesting takes on japanese / local food. I have been here a couple of times due to a recommendation from a friend. One was for their omakase menu and the other was for their yakitori/skewers.First for the omakase:The menu seems to change depending on the daily fish. What seems to be consistent is the quality of the fish. Apparently, they get their fish shipped daily from tsukiji. The preparation mixes from an authentic to a local experience depending on the dish. The highlight was the sashimi and the stars were the tai and the uni, relatively rare finds for a while, fresh cut Tai and Uni in its shell. Both were top quality. The chef also prepared a soup from the various seafood parts. This was remarkable. It is a complex taste with what seems like a ocean of tastes running through your mouth. The sushi was ok, on par with most Japanese restaurants in the upper middle echelon. Dessert was interesting, not the typical ice cream but a chocolate mountain.Skewers:The yakitori and skewers are super good deals. Well, at least they were when I visited. Their menu (and their prices) seems to change from time to time. Highlight was their take on various items wrapped in chicken skin. As fattening as it sounds, it’s actually not bad at all. The fats and oil were m melted away and you are left with a tangy and crisp blanket covering minced fish, chicken or whatever suits your palate. There are quite a few Classifieds in Hong Kong. All of them have a similar menu and ingredients. The staff rotates from branch to branch every month or two.Ingredients are almost always fresh, however, many of the cooks there are simply too lazy to make an otherwise decent dish.Spaghetti with meatball is a old time classic. The taste is decent here but it is made with tangy herbs with the stems still attached. This forces the eater to pick them out from the dish (or worse if you missed one and put it in your mouth already.)The meatball usually comes with some mystery as the meat and herbs are grounded up but usually not in a homogeneous nature.The noodles are decent. Sauce is tangy but a bit short of in terms of quantity, making the dish a bit dry at times.These are the little things that ruin an otherwise great dish. The saving grace is the ingredients, which is almost always fresh. Service is acceptable, but the kitchen tends to be lazy and closes early (up to 30 minutes prior to posted last call).…查看更多

Been to this place quite a few times but never want to stand in the heat and wait. Finally decided to get take out and watch world cup at home.The take out package is quite nice, very well designed boxes to assure nothing gets leaked out on its way home with you.Finally, the main event. 3 sauces, just like dine in. Oyster sauce, “old” soy sauce， and a special spicy sauce (orange color) were all neatly packed. The chicken came with the usual scallions and sour cucumbers on the bottom. The meat was tender, smooth, and quite delicious. The only complaint was that there seemed to have more skin than meat. The rice seemed to have been prepared with chicken stock, so it was flavorful. Portion size was quite small. It took 2 rice meals to fill me up. At close to $150 each, it came to about 300$ for the meal. This would be relatively pricey for a chicken rice takeout.…查看更多

Came here twice but neglected to write about it the first time so will try to write both experiences in 1 go.1st visit was long ago on a eve w another companion. There were quite a few oyster choices, about 7 of them. Tasted relatively fresh (HK standards). Ordered some pasta, which tasted standard. Waiter was new but was quite pleasant. Overall, it was a ok experience, but the price didnt quite match the food. This is a restaurant that was charging michelin prices, but they deliver nothing more than a market where they shuck oysters for you.2nd visit was an ad hoc deal. Planned to go oyster island but it ended up closed. This was the only other oyster joint in the area so decided to give it a go. Walked in and asked about corkage, the waiter looked at the boss and the boss gave us an up down and said 500$. Apparently we looked like rich slobs or he simply didnt want us to dine with them (corkage is listed at 200$ and often waived for repeated customers).Overall, it was subpar in various regards. Namely the price vs food quality and the service. Your experience may change if you become a frequent customer but i likely wont be back unless a change is made.…查看更多

I see this restaurant everyday as it is on my way home. I had high expectations with its name and supposedly authentic local taste. Came in on a weekday and ordered a bowl of the taiwanese beef noodle soup and a bowl of minced meat rice. Both are as must haves for taiwanese food. First thing i noticed when the food came was the small portions... but ok, quality can come in small packages right? I dig in... the rice came with a spoonful of scraps of meat (mostly fat) and rice... the soup base of the soup was very bland. I dabbled a bit and left. Been here a few times, its a nice little hangout that is always full. Ordered the classic earl gray caviar, in the meadow, bloody mary, and crystal 10. Earl gray is always a show stopper, in the meadow and crystal 10 are citrus flavors, and the bloody mary is the wild card. Very spicy but not to the point that it hurts, it is almost perfect. The drink menu is filled with fascinating cocktails. From the looks of its patrons, they must be doing something right. Hidden on elgin street is this little restaurant with a garden for outside or inside seating. Its tight seating and usually a lively atmosphere. We started off with a bottle of chianti classico... which led to another... and then another... all without breaking the bank. Started off with some olives, pepper poppers, bruschetta, and a cold meat board. All went very well with the wine and shared amongst the 4 of us. Since the table was quite small, we waited to finish all the appetizers before ordering the main dishes. Entrees for us were a couple of pastas, seafood risotto and puttanesca (always wanted to try this dish 😅, if you know what i mean). Both were better than expected. The risotto came with huge pieces of scallops and a creamy rich sauce, al dente. The puttanesca was highlighted with anchovies, it was very tangy. We also ordered the veal, which unfortunately was a tad disappointing with heavy breading. It tasted much like a cheese bread than meat. Came here for a quick supper. The decor outside is quite inviting, so i decided to give it a go. Decor inside reminds me of a canteen, a nice one, but nevertheless, a cafeteria. The menu is relatively simple with rice bowls of different flavors. I ordered one with seafood and veggies. The specialty is definitely the clay pot rice. Food arrive after 15 minutes or so. It was sizzling hot... but otherwise nothing of noting. It seems like another bowl of rice with some meat and veggies. Overall, it is mediocre at best and relatively disappointing.…查看更多

Been here a few times already. One can usually get a walk in seat during the later hours of the evening. The menu is full of 'Don's' with large amounts of seafood. Their specialty is the tuna. We ordered 3 kinds, one with the tuna scallions, one with abalone, and one with uni. Each bowl comes with a variety of fish. It's quick, almost 'fast food' quick, and the fish is fresh. You wont be getting premium service here but if you want to get a quick fix on that sashimi crave, this is it. The fish is not the most premium type (i.e Michelin quality) , but definitively above average. At this price point though, it is one of the best I've had. They also stay open late, so it's a good choice after your OT work or a movie.…查看更多

Very conveniently located at Lee gardens. This yakitori place has pretty good variety of meats and veggies to choose from. We chose the beef cubes, chicken, and veggies. We also had some sashimi for appetizer. There is a decent amount of sake and shochu on the drinks menu, we had both. The yakitori were quite salty and wasn't quite up to par with other places that serve similar items. The sashimi was normal, not the freshest but was by no means bad either. Overall, it has comfortable seating (including groups), but not worth the premium you pay for the mediocre food.…查看更多

went on a sunday eve. the wait was very long, over an hour but there's plenty of shopping downstairs and they can call you to come back when the table is ready. the food is supposed to be shipped from japan (a majority) and other locations. most are listed right on the menu, the server can tell you if there are some minor ones not listed. we chose the chicken, the wagyu beef, usda beef, and a bunch of veggies. the soup base (which each person gets the own) was shabu shabu and a herbal one. the herbal one was a pleasant surprise, with authentic herbs put directly into the pot. all the foods were of good quality and the wagyu beef literally can melt in your mouth (definitely a4-a5 quality).…查看更多

went on a saturday during tea time. the decor and location were promising. theres a big bar top where u can watch the chef cook. I came because of the japanese chefs who supposedly flew in for the opening. I was expecting some decent service or at least up to par for a japanese restaurant. first off, the tables were uncleaned with garlic on top. When asked to clean it a bit, the waiter came with a rag, slapped it on the table, pulled my chair back while i was on it (pretty strong guy considering i weight over 150) and proceeded to move the rag around a couple times. he then went back, apparently to learned from the chef. he put the rag down and went straight in and prepared the food with his bare hands. guess you know you are going to get that local taste. the ramen was innovative, of fusion type. a very strong soup base, but it was very condensed and only comes up to about 1/5 of the bowl. the ramen itself was pre packaged, so dont expect homemade quality. 2 pieces of meat, one pork and one chicken. overall, it was decent. nothing memorable, but it is distinct from other ramen shops. service needs a big improvement. hopefully they can work the kinks out. will have to wait till then for a return.…查看更多

there are 2 shops, both a block from each other. one serves congee and wonton noodle, and the other does dessert. the foods of both are mediocre at best. the service is always a surprise. unfortunately, it is of the unpleasant kind, so be prepared to be yelled at. the only thing it has going for them is that they stay open til late, often times, it's the only choice.…查看更多
