Mother’s Day Disappointment

Booked in advance for Mother’s Day dinner, A La Carte menu. A lot of other places in similar range were full. $500 deposit needed to place booking.Pros:-Decor is nice-Relatively quiet even when full house-BBQ meats were pretty tasty Cons:-Hotel locked off entrance to the restaurant without any signage. Reservation team did not mention this at all. Had to ask concierge to take us to a completely different entrance outside the hotel. -cold, uninterested service for a Michelin restaurant. Server did not come to pour tea even once, or check on pot before it ran empty. -floor highly understaffed, had to wave around every time something was needed-“Sold out” of classic dishes like crispy fried chicken & live lobster at 7pm, yet was able to serve the chicken on the Mother’s Day menu. If so many ALC items were going to be sold out, then don’t offer the ALC. -No one checked or asked if we were happy with the foodDishes:-Appetizer trio: $3xx - decent -Osmanthus Crispy Chicken $2xx - ok but not very crispy and the sauce doesn’t add to the overall flavour-Grouper Pieces with Honeyed Ham and Morels $5xx- couldn’t taste the morels. Fish and ham and veg tasted fine and well presented, but very disassembled dish.-Stir Fried Lobster Pieces $5xx - straight up insulting in amount and execution. Nearly $600 with 6pcs of lobster that doesn’t seem to even make up one tail. Fried with shell still on, so meat was completely stuck to shell, no tools given to eat, very difficult to eat. Requested seafood picks 2x before being told restaurant doesn’t have any...in a place where live Alaskan King crab and lobster is on the menu. Meat was scarce, hard and pretty flavourless. -Kurobuta Fried Noodles $3xx - good but not enough sauce, sauce a bit too viscous to spread over noodlesConclusion:Very disappointing for a Michelin restaurant for this level of service and execution. …查看更多

Nice Vibes, Mediocre Food, Service needs work

Came for dinner with a few friends, one person was running a whole hour late. Ordered drinks to start and ordered food half hour later. There were around 3 servers running the floor. Pros:-Nice vibes-No seating time limit-Weren’t pushed to order more drinks-Half open air, great when temperature is still low -Good dishes: firefly squid, chicken karaage, queen avocado-OK dishes: spam musubi, potato salad, Service Issues:-Server not ready with materials to take order, had to remind him our order list is long-Server not familiar with restaurant’s own iPad ordering system, or faulty iPad? Ordering took over 5mins while repeating items again and again to server -Asked for all food except appetisers to be held, but sharing plate shows up-Had to find another server to ask to hold the dishes again, don’t trust first server to get it right anymore.-No server communication : asked first server to unhold the dishes as second server MIA. Guy tells me to tell the chef myself, and the chef will serve in his own time. Am sat at the bar across from chef but this was rude. Food issues:-Dishes appear haphazardly, no pattern or logic to appearance. Potato salad appetiser appeared last. -Missed 2 dishes, a musubi and a udon. The udon coming last is fine, but the missing musubi should’ve come with rest of musubi’s.-Shishito peppers - could use some char/ cook longer to soften. I also don’t think item served are shishito peppers. They look more like Fresno peppers.-Seaweed ceviche: this tastes like/is prepackaged chuka salad sold at premium price. -Crab musubi : full sticks of imitation crab on rice. This should be renamed or have some indication it is not real crab? -Waygu truffle musubi : underwhelmed by dry, overfried beef patty and truffle Mayo sauce. Cannot feel this is wagyu at all, and combination is very oily. Conclusion:Food is mediocre, prices don’t translate into quality ingredients. We ordered more than we could finish, and didn’t splurge on drinks, but still came to $550/person. Service was patchy between OK and terrible. The chef seemed overwhelmed by number of orders. …查看更多

Decided to try a new place for Korean fried chicken. Got the original chicken with fries and omija, ricotta salad, rose tteokbokki on Foodpanda at a discount. Arrived well packed in eco packaging. 1) Chicken - 5.5/10Part of the skin were ok crispy, part of it didn’t have the batter. The meat was dry for both drumstick and thigh. The flavouring didn’t taste Korean, it was somewhat like KFC. I guess I enjoy chopped whole chicken pieces a lot more. This format makes it basically same as any fast food chicken place. I’d rather have Jollibee.2) Fries 4/10This was neither crispy nor wet soggy. The bite felt a bit cardboard-y. 3) Omija 4/10Maybe my preference but this was too sweet.4) Ricotta salad 7/10Actually quite enjoyed the creamy ricotta. A bit like eating cream cheese from the tub but lighter. At $96 full price it is a bit expensive. 5)Rose tteokbokki 8/10Not too spicy, and a good mix of quality ingredients. I just wish there was less sauce and that it was less watery. Everything was just ok. Not bad but definitely nothing stellar. It’s a cheat meal for me but I felt cheated out of my calories. I feel the ratings were really overhyped considering the options you have in this city. Look elsewhere for your chicken unless you want the Korean sides with your order. …查看更多

Common Failings of An Otherwise Decent Restaurant

We'd made a reservation for 7pm, for my birthday dinner with my family after seeing the reviews and impressive score. Thought it would be a nice place to try some exciting food. The exterior was nicely designed, and carries into the interior decor which uses the same blue and white tiles paired with a sleek central kitchen and aged wooden tables. It's a pretty looking restaurant, but the seating in the place is quite cramped, in a way that you're practically rubbing shoulders with the next table. The closed quarters and non-sound-absorbant decor meant that noise was a huge issue. I could barely talk to the person across the table...it was that bad. The food menu is small, with maybe 2 dozen choices of tapas on one page and about 12 pages of wine. There are no "bigger dishes." Everything is tapas-sized and meant for sharing, as a warning note. It is not a easy menu to navigate unless you have decent knowledge of Spanish food terms. They'd run out of the Goat curd croquettes which we wanted to try, and replaced the menu's clams with razor clams (daily special). Despite this, all the food items we tried were quite good. Items ordered for 3 people:-Chicken & mushroom paella : rice seemed a little mushier than neccessary but flavourful-Baked cheese with sweet crusted top, served with bread slices : Star of the night, a sweet and oily creamy stringy thing on bread. Needed more bread, as it went down really heavily with only 3 slices.-Australian rib-eye with crushed tomatos : We ordered medium rare, it came blue. Nothing to sing home about. Needed a dash of salt and pepper.-Seared scallops on a bed of dressed greens with bacon: Nice colour on scallops but tops had no texture, and was a bit rubbery inside. Needed lemon. Definitely had better. The salad under it was flavourful but the entire dish was really, really salty. -Fried squid with squid ink aioli : Nicely done, especially the addition of zingy pepper slices and the creaminess of the squid ink sauce.-Braised octopus with chorizo, served with bread slices : I expected octopus, not baby octopus, when you put octopus on the menu. Flavourful in tomato sauce, but nothing wow. Again, 3 tiny slices of bread with 6 pieces of octopi...not the correct ratio. My biggest issue with the entire night was the poor service. Our waitress was a very pushy woman and was visibly displeased when we didn't order drinks. It wasn't as if we'd ordered the cheapest food on the menu or 2 plates between 3 people. All our food came within 5-10minutes after we ordered. We were quite shocked because most of it had to be eaten hot, and we had to scramble to eat it while warm. Of course most of it got cold before we got to it. We look over at the next table: their food came one plate at a time. It was obvious the kitchen was not timing our meal correctly, or the restaurant just wanted us to finish and get out. That is really the worst feeling ever, and really ruined the meal for us. We finished all the food in 20 minutes. My mother was still sawing through her last few bites of steak when the waitress came and started cleaning everything off our table. It was 7:45 at this time. Ridiculous. I don't care if there are people lining up outside. This isn't a fast-food restaurant, and I think a decent hour and half should be allowed for each table. The waitress then started pushing the dessert menu on us a few times, signalling that if we weren't getting any, we should probably get out soon. I persisted in staying with a water refill for another 15min as we were in the middle of a family conversation. Bill came to around $800 in total. Service is not included, and at this level, I'm fairly tempted to leave a very, very low tip for ruining my birthday dinner. It is ridiculous: if the establishment had any respect for food, it wouldn't be served like this.  Honestly, the meal was tasty enough for the price, but like so many places in Hong Kong, the service really failed to impress. Will not come again as no food tastes good cold, crammed down our throats, and when the customer has to deal with annoying staff. …查看更多
