I'm a stickler for atmosphere. Taste is important, but the whole point of going out is the feeling and atmosphere one can't generate at home. I like all sorts of cuisines and will try anything once. Looking for authentic flavors in try throughout Hong Kong!

Soho Brunch
The Real Bread Cafe
2010-11-27
Went to Soho looking for Brunch today and stumbled upon this cafe. It's somewhat hard to find at first but you will definitely see it if you're on the escalators. It's got a nice atmosphere, open air style and relaxed. I had the spanish omelet (picture below). It had chorizo, peppers and onions on top as well as a side salad with pine and cherry tomatoes as well as some bell peppers. In addition there was some fresh bread, absolutely delicious. Pricing was good. only 88 for the omelet. The only complaint I have is that the mimosas had a bit too much pulp for my liking. Wait staff was attentive but not pushy. Great place for brunch and lunch with such wonderful weather …Read More

Quaint Pub
McSorley's Ale House
2010-11-27
We walked right in and sat in a corner section of the pub which was a bit more secluded. It was perfect for an evening drink with close friends. Location is easy to find, right off the escalators, and is near other pubs and restaurants if you're looking for a lot of variety. The service was pretty good, nothing too bad or too great. The pub is actually two stories and the second level is accessed by a quaint spiral staircase. The beer selection was great, if you're not looking to try something new they have all the classics. They also have a house beer called McSorley's Ale I believe. It was rather flat and tasted watered down so I would not suggest ordering it. Other than the house beer, atmosphere was casual and friendly. The selection was varied and prices were well-set. Great place for a relaxing drink.…Read More

Family Style in the Big City
Osteria 意大利餐廳
2010-11-27
This is a great restaurant. The walls are done in stone and reminded me of Tuscany however there is also a feeling of modernity in the contrast between stone walls and simplistic pictures. Before entering the restaurant there is a large glass window through which you can see the kitchen. It creates a sensation that you are not eating out but that you are rather part of a family. The feeling is continued through the manager's lively attitude. He makes sure that everything is good and will often personally deliver your food, bread or wine. The wine selection is wonderful, many options to choose from so everyone will be pleased, except the beer drinker. I was surprised by how limited the offerings were for pasta since this is an Italian restaurant. However, the menu does have a good deal of variety. I ordered the spinach ravioli in the butter sauce (picture below). The taste was good, however I would have like a bit more smokiness. All in all a great dinner. Well worth the price and wonderful, charming atmosphere.…Read More

Great Atmosphere, Great Prices
Yorkshire Pudding
2010-11-07
I came across this pub with a group of friends; we were trying to find a new place in Soho to just relax. Yorkshire was exactly what we were looking for. This time we only got drinks but we'll definitely be back again for dining.Yorkshire is situated on a street corner and is an open-air style bar with great flow. The prices were great! A pint will cost you around 60-70 depending on your taste. They have a great selection of beers and liquors.Great place to relax and grab a beer!…Read More

Interesting Experience
The Quarterdeck Kowloon
2010-11-07
I've eaten at The Quarterdeck before this time and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is relaxed and if you're lucky enough to get a table by the window then you'll have a gorgeous view of Central throughout your dinner. The taste depends mainly on what you like to eat. The Quarterdeck is labeled as an Australian restaurant so don't expect layers upon layers of flavor throughout your dish because that's simply not how Australian cuisine is. I've had the ribs as well as the burgandy lamb shanks. Both were excellent in taste. However, I think the biggest place where The Quarterdeck stands out is in service. The first time I went there I noticed that the staff seemed a bit...unorganized. This time was much worse. We were sat immediately because the restaurant was close to empty. When asked if we could sit by the window, as I had done previously, we were told no and then were sat at a corner table next to the register; all this in a restaurant that maybe had two full tables at the time. I questioned my friends several times whether our waiter actually worked at the restaurant or not. He had no idea what was on the menu and when asked if we could substitute pumpkin mashed potatoes for couscous he replied "I don't know, I guess". When our food finally arrived it was delicious, I won't lie, I enjoy their food a lot. We were having a great time eating until my friend pulled a piece of plastic about 20cm out of his side salad, (picture included). When informed of the issue, a manager told us, "oh, that's what they wrap the meat in, it's probably just an accident. Can I get you guys some drinks?". Ok, I suppose the plastic is somewhat forgivable and I love their Twin Oaks. However, we were in for a surprise when we were told that our compensation for having plastic in our food was a soft drink or bottle of water. Are you kidding me?If you care nothing for service then you'll have a great time, the food and wine selection is wonderful. However, I will never eat there again.…Read More
