We were walk in customers there last Friday evening as we are big fans of Tapas and Paella Very attractive Reataurant with nice open air design. Great start! Ordered our drinks up , one wine one water. Ended up having to ask for the wine 3 times before finally it dawned on them that 15 mins has passed and nothing had come my way. . We ordered gambas and chicken / rabbit paella Gambas came extremely quickly. Bit bland but ok. And Paella took the expected 30-40 mins as has to be cooked fresh from start. No problem. When it arrived it was instantly obvious that it wasn’t properly cooked at all. The rice was still white colouration and had not expanded. It was super thin in the pan. The staff took it back with apologies and since impossible to fix it we didn’t want to wait another half hour for another one and left hungry. Not a great start for such a nice looking restaurant. The Dickens bar was my old stomping ground for many a year but this evening it showed itself to have fallen victim to change. ordered the mussels in white wine. Absolutely no taste at all Scrawny little muscles. small enough to be local but minus any flavour. Even the so called sauce was just like water with some sliced carrots and onions thrown in. Cumon Guys even I can make this nicely. Thenbritish pub standard fish and chips. Using Ling fish at least and not slimey sole. Turns up looking fine however on cutting open its 70% batter almost half cm thick and the little bit of fish inside was very dry and tasteless. Had to send back. Really inedible. But kudos to the German bar manager and support crew there who rocked up and sorted us with a steak and mushroom pie in lieu which was good. Good staff at bar being badly let down by Kitchen. Very nice deco fed a healthy expectation of some decent interesting quality food. Ended up with most dishes corrupted by fruit flavours. Chicken skewers tasting of pineapple. Raw so called snapper overwhelmed by taste of tangerines. No hint of that in menu and we do not like sweet mains. Sorry won't be back and cannot recommend. Great expectations as always previously loved this restaurant for so many years. Better than the Hk side version. The waiters are just great but even they are struggling with the seemingly new style.first class rib eye ordered medium turns up semi raw and after sending back gets redelivered with a straight face as a chopped up stir fry. You guys have lost it. ! It's an unbelievable event. I wouldn't even bother to right but seems the faceless manager who never even apologised doesn't give a hoot. Good luck.
