I wanted to go to Electric Ave for a long time, and today I got the opportunity to visit during lunch. I ordered the American Burger, which comes with fries and a soda at lunch. The fries and soda were served first. Incredibly crisp fries with a plenty of finely chopped rosemary on top. That's a good start I thought.  The burger came in a short while, and it looked massive. Taking one bite into the perfectly toasted, buttery bun with the burger patties, at least 5 different layers of sauces and seasonings -- and I was convinced that this is indeed the best burger in Hong Kong. Better than any from fast casual (Five Guys or Shake shack, Honbo) or even higher end restaurants.  Perfectly cooked, perfectly presented. Its a solid 9.8/10 in my book. I was on my way to the ferry to Central and I decided to take the upper deck and stopped by this hole-in-the-wall. Looked intriguing and I was hungry and thought I will try some doner kabab. However, on chatting with the owner, I found that he has some authentic Peshawari food (NW Pakistani) which is similar to Afghani/Central Asian flavors (few spices, focus more on meat). On his recommendation, I tried mutton Peshawari and boy, it was a treat. The portion was huge and full of meat with a bit gravy and it came with warm bread.  It was not cheap at HKD 150, but the portion size was really generous, so it is great for a meat lover! It may not sound good value, but when you have the see the amount of meat, it certainly is good value.  Lots of mutton (bone-in), with  fall-off-the-bone tender meat and subtle spices, it was delicious and authentic. I went there attracted by the $98 take away option. Cheeseburger, fries and a drink.  The burger was perfectly cooked medium-rare, flavorful and beefy. The burger patty was pretty thick and had the right mix of fat and meat to make it very juicy and the cheese on top felt like good quality aged cheese imparting a strong flavor in a very good way. There was a lettuce, tomato and a slaw type layer on a toasted bun.  The fries were garlicky and piping hot. I ate at the square next to the square and the fries were still hot and the burger felt delicious. I would rate this a very high quality burger, probably just as good as butchers club burger. With the meal deal, this is certainly one of the best lunch deals in central. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures. I'll do it on my next visit there, which looks like it will happen soon.…查看更多

I have been to La Vache quite a few times in the past but not for the past year and half.  While the crowds have swelled, unfortunately the management has fallen into the trap of cutting corners. The price is now $298 for salad, steak and unlimited fries.  Crusty bread with butter was served as you are settling  in. A simple salad with toasted walnut comes next, which is pretty decent. Thankfully, the dressing on the salad was just right and it felt pretty light and fresh.  However, I was disappointed with the steak. The steak had no marbling whatsoever and was tiny (~150g?).  The steak was done perfectly medium rare, but it tasted very much like a cheaper beef variety (NZ?). Probably they got it from the wet market down the hill.  On a positive note, the quality of  fries remained top notch and perfectly salted. I had to fill myself up with fries as the steak went pretty quickly. Many HK restaurants, once they  get established, the management starts to cut corners. I have been going to Sichuan house since it opened two years ago. The lunch special was reasonably priced and food was exceptional. However my latest visit today was a huge letdown. Firstly the price of lunch special has increased to 158, but except one tofu main option everything else is +20 or +30. I ordered the chicken, which was delicious but portion size has dramatically reduced with bony inedible nuggets accounting for most of the bites (more than 70%). The dessert of the day was a watery cold dish, far cry from the desserts that this place offered sometime ago. Most annoyingly, they charged me 15hkd for the (seemingly complementary) tea offered, which I didn't even order, nor had any sign or prices to let the customer know it will be charged (used to be complementary earlier). So my lunch special came out to be 212 HKD for a few bites of chicken. Needless to say that I am pissed at Sichuan House for its focus on bottom line at the expense of the dining experience. So long Sichuan House, it was nice to be your friend. Not coming back.…查看更多
