"One of most pleasant dining experience in HK"

I can’t help but to write a piece for this fabulous restaurant – Brasserie on the Eighth@Conrad HotelMy first visit was two years ago with a friend, and the charcoal-grilled steak was a big check, so I’ve decided to bring my then-bf to try. But it took me us two years to revisit, and we were blown away!!It really didn’t start off well by me forgetting my HXXC credit card, which I could enjoy 25% off the bill plus bday cake and a bottle of wine. Just as I was about to cancel the appointment when I got there, I explained the situation to Donna, not expecting any exception, only to find out AE card also enjoy the same discount without the cake and wine. So we went ahead.The restaurant was half occupied when we got there at 7.30pm, and slowly other customers filled up 90% of the seating, but the atmosphere was just as relaxing as 2 years ago. It’s never a pretentious or up-tight restaurant, but rather cozy ambiance, good for whining down at the end of a busy day.Now comes to the food, my hubby ordered the crab cake salad as starter and mine was mussels, the portion was a bit small for the crab cake salad, but the mussels tasted just right, so starters were tied.Next, we had tagiolini with tiger prawns and grilled ribeye for entrée. Although I liked my pasta, but I’d still prefer pasta in cream sauce better, just my personal preference. The ribeye was good, seasoning was just right (for me), but my hubby said it’s a bit salty to his standard, and the texture could be a but more tender. Both received a passing mark. Finally the dessert, it totally came out of the blue when Donna, the wait staff brought over the birthday cake, I was elated it was least expected. My hubby ordered tea for the cake and the petite four that came with it just gave a perfect touch to everything. Just as we were indulging our sweet teeth, they again surprised by by giving my this cute little bear for my birthday. Although the steak did not score 10/10 for my hubby, but the dessert and the smile on my face made it up for him :) btw, we were so full that my stomach hurt after dinner!!I have to say, this is a perfect bday dinner for me, all the small and personal touches just melted my heart. Lawry's The Prime Rib

This is the 3rd farewell that I have so far in July, is this the month of departure?!This time a group of 10 visited Lawry's, many of us for the 1st time. I've been trying to give it a chance before since my hubby is a beef-lover, but everytime I would get distracted and went to some other restaurants instead. If it wasn't for the host who made the decision, my 1st Lawry's encounter would not be made possible either. But I am glad the decision was made afterall :)Lunch hours at Lawry's are quite quiet, perhaps COVA downstair is taking up much of the business. As you can see from the menu below, the price looks reasonable on the front. Perhaps it's American style steakhouse, I'd say the service is not as pretendious and quite relaxed, good for group gathering like we do.Each of us ordered a lunch / weekly special set. You can select either soup or salad for starter. My Pomelo Salad was good, the tiger prawns were fresh (3.5/5). My frd's mushroom soup as also fair.Most of us ordered the "HK-cut" prime rib, and we had a good laugh around it, as we've heard of US-cut or Bristish-cut, but HK-cut is really "unique" even at Lawry's, but after checking with the server, it's basically a smaller (4Oz) slide to accomodate local diners. The rib comes with yorkshire pudding, cream corn and mash. The cream corn was really very creamy and crispy. I got the luxury to share my frd's, I'd said the meat itself is fair, not fab, i've tasted better somewhere, but the sides were surprisingly good, the heat of the dish also helped scoring the extra points (3.5)Onto my own entree, I had lobster tails with green curry, not only does it look yummy, the sweetness in the curry was quite intriguing and makes you want to have a 2nd bite. The lobster was fresh and well-cooked, the portion (overall on all dishes) was also fair. Blame it on my bias, although this is a steakhouse, I'd actually rate the curry dish better than the prime rib (4/5) :)Finally on dessert, there wasn't any selection, basically everyone had the dessert of the day but it was fine, warm choco sponge with hot fudge, paired with a scope of vanilla ice-cream and whip, again hearty and wholesome, nothing pretendious. (3/5)Overall experience was good, a place where you could expect from a traditional steakhouse, relaxed atmopshere and service, hearty food.P.S. Citi visa enjoys 15% off on set menu.Farewell is not something to be happy about (for most of the occassion), but the good food certainly helps in lightening up the mood.…查看更多

My 1st visit to Westwood Carvery was a couple of months ago, the shop is definitely getting more attention and rightfully so.This time we visited in a group of 8 for a frd's farewell party. The shop is a small little restaurant with a cozy environment, most diners were enjoying their small talks, and I hope we didn't create too much noise for the rest We have decided to pick this as a farewell treat to our buddy, so obviously my last impression was good enough for me to revisit again. And of coz, it turned out to be a perfect choice!Service was always very personal and polite, from taking reservation to walking us thru the menu. To start off, we had Nachos and Calamari as our starters, portion was fair, enough to be shared by the party.Based on my personal recommendation, everyone ordered Pasta Carbonara and Prime ribs for entree, complimentary with sauteed mushroom Luckily, the food was spot on, everyone enjoyed their dishes. The prime rib was an all-time-fav for the guys - authentic and juicy, while my taste buds said the creamy carbonara was extremely satisfying :) Perhaps I am too much of a mushroom-lover, this has gotta to be one of the best sauteed I've seen, very rustic and portion was generous. (must not forget to ask for the grill option next time!)Some critics said it's a bit over-priced, but with two bottles of wine, main course for each plus some sides, I'd say $375pp is quite reasonable. It's even more worth it when you compare this to other main franchises. This little shop deserves more publicity and I am extremely hopeful that this will get expanded in the near future. I visited Dondonya for the 1st time. Walked pass this restaurant a few times but have never got the chance to try, so me and hubby decided to give it a try once. Interior deco is what you would expect from a mid-range Jap restaurant, quite spacious and clean.Price was surprisingly modest comparing to other restaurant at Element, where most would cost at least 250pp. Each don-set was around 150 - 200, so it's reasonably priced given it's location and competition.Menu has a good selection of shabu-shabu plus cooked / sashimi-don, and a few selection of snacks.The salmon salad have ordered below is the least appealing dish (see pic below), it's basically some salad veggie mixed with onion and salmon sashimi. They could do a more delicate smaller dish for $60 than presenting an unstylish blend salad. I would give 2/5 for this.Hubby ordered the deep-fried pork cutlet as usual, it's a average dish and no surprise. 3/5 for this one.I ordered a Hokkaido sashimi-don, this has to be the best out of all dishes, freshness is up to standard, not a * rating, but with this price range ($120), it's more than reasonable. I'll rate 3.5/5 on this.The portion for all dishes was quite generous, I couldn't finish my set. This is cheaper and seating is more comfortable than Sen-Ryo downstairs.…查看更多
