Value for money! 👍🏼We came here for the Omurice and were not disappointed! We got one with roasted beef, and one with kimchi and pork belly. The portions were huge 🍛 and the taste was good (although not authentic 😆) but we both think it could be less salty. We also ordered half portion of Jajang fried chicken. We were so full that we doggy bagged 3/4 of it. The chicken was tender and crispy, and it also came with some fries and fried tteok. Everything was well cooked but the jajang sauce didn’t really match the chicken and fries? 😅 We would order the original flavour or the classic honey fried chicken next time 😆. I had the egg tart when it was piping hot, straight out from the oven! It was delicious 🤤. Although the egg flavour wasn’t strange, the egg custard was silky and smooth while the crust was thin and buttery. The service was great as well. Many remained nostalgic about the good yet cheap food at this neighbourhood eatery! Famous for their cheap juicy potstickers, Mak’s also serves other Hong Kong style and Shanghai style snacks. I got the potstickers, as well as the wonton dandan noodles (雲吞擔擔麵). Potstickers were good for the price (only $10 for 3 🤩) and were juicy due to the half fat and meat ratio but they were not hot enough which made the dumpling skin a little hard. The wonton dandan noodles were was perfect for the gloomy weather! The peanut & chilli soup was not as thick as I expected but it was hearty and delicious, and went very well with the noodles as it perfected coated them. Their sourdough is the best in town! It has a super crunchy crust outside and it is super moist inside with the perfect tang and chew. It is exactly what one expects from a sourdough. Our family loves it and Frenchies is always our first choice when it comes to sourdough. The price is also very reasonable!The pastries were good either but just not to my liking. The espresso cinnamon roll was really good as a sourdough cinnamon roll (better than FS in my opinion) but I like mine soft and fluffy from Cinnabon 😂. I always get the chocolate chips egglettes since it is just so good! Every bite is guaranteed with a mouthful of gooey chocolate chips 😋. But this time, I ordered the original flavour which was the best in the district! Since all orders were made upon order to ensure freshness and the best quality, so expect to wait for at least 10 minutes for your yummy treat. These egg puffs are delicious! I always go for the chocolate chips one but they offer a wide range of flavours such as match, chestnut, salted egg yolk, pork floss and earl grey (seasonal). These puffs are made to order, so expect a 5-min wait or longer if there is a long queue. One of the best 牛雜 in town. It is cheap and delicious! Since I had dinner, I just ordered the turnip (a must!), beef stomach and tendon to fix my craving. They were $8 each. Portion was normal but they were mouthwatering since they all soaked up the beef broth which was cooked for hours. The broth was clear and sweet. I drank every single drop of it. Love the vibe of this place! It is very open, bright and stylish. It is a restaurant but can also serve as a coworking space.The restaurant offers great breakfast and delicious pancakes! We can tailor our all day breakfast (Egg Your Way) which is just awesome cause that means I can skip the beacon and baked beans 🤣. I got mine with avocado (the almond flakes on top made a great texture which I loved), mushrooms, sausage, mixed greens, pancakes and eggs. Everything was soooo fresh and well made. The pancakes were so soft and slightly chewy 🥰. Got the Dusk till Dawn which was nice but it was more visually appealing for me 😂. Still prefer hot coffee lol. The coconut espresso was a bomb 💣! It was delicious, refreshing and pleasant ❤️. For my first visit, I ordered the Laska with pork jowl set ($48) for lunch which also included a drink.It didn’t look too appetising but the taste wasn’t bad! The Laska flavour was more on the creamy and mild end, so it wasn’t spicy. It had a generous portion of pork jowl (at least 6 pieces and pretty good), and also came with half an hard boiled egg, two pieces of fish cake (could taste the freezer taste a little) , two tofu puffs (not very fresh) and bean sprouts. Service was good and fast.For my second visit, I ordered the Tom Yum soup noodles with pork jowl ($48) and it was tasty! It will be the perfect bowl of soup noodles in winter or gloomy weather 😆. The Tom Yum soup was very appetising and you could taste a range of spices which I love. Pork jowl was good and yummy (just love the texture). The service was efficient like the previous visit. This restaurant offers great lunch sets and delicious chicken, whether it is Hainanese style or Sichuan style!The lunch set comes with a soup, a hot drink and a appetiser which is usually a dumpling or meatball. I usually get their Sichuan style chicken lunch set with rice but this time I ordered the Vietnamese noodles with Hainanese chicken as my main topping and the chicken never failed me! The best Mango Pancake in town! A must visit when you are in the area ❤️.Uncle Pancake has been in the business for 40 years and he really knows his food well! We ordered the signature Mango pancake and it was filled with a mini mountain of fresh mango pieces 🤩. It was great value!! The pancake was super fluffy and the mango was just so fresh and sweet. This combo would never go wrong 🤤🥭🥞🧇. The only tweak we would make next time is to ask Uncle to skip the Canto-style mayo spread (we thought it was condensed milk at first 😆) since it wasn’t our liking. His egglette was also superb and actually tasted like egg unless some other shops. The texture was just on point, crispy outside but soft and slightly chewy inside. The original egglette was yummy while the chocolate one was incredibly divine since it was a chocolate flavoured egglette with lots of chocolate chips inside! Everything is made to order, so prepare to wait for a bit but it is so worth it! He would make the pancakes beforehand and store them but that doesn’t affect the texture and yumminess of it! The whole combo is a bomb 💣. It was super juicy (double made it even juicier), the lettuce and tomato were fresh and crunchy, the melted cheese and sauce were tasty and went so well with everything! Took a bite of chick n’ shake and it was also very juicy and tender but would love to try the new BBQ chick n’ shake next time (we only saw that new seasonal menu when we collected our meals.)We still had space after the burgers and decided to share a shroom burger lol. The shroom burger was also delicious. It was fried till crispy and the melted cheese (let’s be honest, melted cheese makes everything better!) went very well with the portobello mushroom. Got the smoked salmon ciabatta sandwich right before it closed as my dinner. The smoked salmon was fatty and thickly sliced which offered a great texture with the fresh crunchy lettuce and tomatoes. The mustard also matched very well with everything. While the ingredients were all fresh and good quality, the bread itself was a bit dry and rough in texture. (I was a little disappointed since their danish and cakes are superb! So I expected more for their baked goods.) Hopefully the dryness was due to the fact that the bread was in the fridge the whole day and not made to taste like this. P.S. This was a surprisingly nice experience! I tried Emack & Bolio’s a few times before but I found it too sweet for my liking, so I never wanted to go back, but I realised that I was just wrong with my ice cream choices from this unplanned visit! I always stuck to two scoops of any chocolate flavours (cause I loveeee chocolates!) which were just too sweet and heavy for me but not the other flavours! So, my friend got a discount coupon on Klook and since we were around the area, we decided to grab three scoops to share as after dinner dessert 🍨. Emack & Bolio’s is famous for their wide range of interesting and innovative flavours, so it took us a long while to decide 😆. My friend isn’t a chocolate fan (more of a batter or cookie dough fan), so we just picked the 1) Space Cake (which was cake flavour ice cream with red velvet cake bites, and this was delicious & addictive !), 2) Stoney’s Dream (one of their signatures which was vanilla ice cream with chocolate chip cookies and brownies) and 3) Salted Caramel with chocolate pretzel (this was also super delicious and loved those crunchy pretzel!). They were very generous with the portions (but they were pricey tooo) and the service was good & friendly. The Wan Chai branch is quite spacious but due to the social distancing restriction, the shop was only allowed to fill 50% of its seats. We didn’t take long to finish everything cause it was just so gooooooooood (so milky and yummmmy 🤤). These three flavours really changed my perception of Emack and I would come to try out its other non-chocolate flavours!I bought myself a Beantown Buzz Bark just to give its chocolate dessert another chance, and it was tooo sweet for me🤣 (but still decadent!) even though it was an espresso bar with Oreo bites and chocolate.
