So I came here with a friend for lunch today. I've been hearing quite a lot about this place and wanted to see if the food was as good as people said. Came here at 11:45AM (they open 12PM) so we got seats the minute they opened. Lines didn't look that long today (even when we left at 1PM) but I definitely would suggest coming here early. Environment: Seats are ok (a little on the hard side) but place is pretty comfortable and well lit. We had a table with a harbor view so that was pretty nice. S

Service: Service was spot on. Efficient and friendly. Food came out super quick and when we asked for an extra bowl of rice it literally came out 20 seconds later. Nice.
Onto the food:
Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab - This was a nice way to start and quite yummy. The crab was crispy and full of flavor. The sauce (similar to a soy sauce) was a nice compliment. Good way to start the meal.
Tonkatsu Set Lunch - One bite of the tonkatsu and I understand why this place is so popular. The tonkatsu was flavorful, crispy and light (not oily at all). I was really surprised since it almost seems like they 'air-fried' it. Meat was on the lean side but it didn't matter in this case. It was kind of nice you could freshly grind sesame seeds to mix in with your tonkatsu sauce. Personally I found the sauce a little too thick but it still tasted pretty good. The bowl of rice was a pretty big bowl (for set lunch standards) and the shredded lettuce salad tasted pretty fresh. Usually I don't eat shredded lettuce salads (they are more like garnishes) but the seaweed dressing at Tonkichi went pretty well with it. Yum.
My friend ordered the tonkatsu don but I personally thought it was only average mainly because it was drenched in sauce and tasted a little soggy.
Overall I was pretty happy with my meal. It's a little on the pricey side...$200 each to share an appetizer and have a set lunch but next time I am craving tonkatsu I am definitely going to come back.
