Met boyfriend at KCC as I had an errand. We couldn't decide what to eat when we saw a number of people going into a place called 蒲東小館 (English name: Pu Dong Xiao Guan). It served Shanghainese food but during afternoon tea time, they had value for money sets.The place was very big. Bigger than it looks when you peak in. I had a cold soymilk. I know it said cold drinks you add $2 but I always assumed it was due to them adding ice. There was no ice so a bit bizarre to charge me for that.
Boyfriend had the Tantan Noodles with Fried Chicken ($48). This was SUPER spicy. Even boyfriend felt it was and he can usually eat a bit of heat. The noodles were ok. Springy. But it just felt like a mouthful of spicy peanut butter. Portion was huge though.
The fried chicken was just a bit under cooked. There was a slight pink tinge. The skin was crispy but oddly tasted sour.
I had the Fried Shanghai Noodles in Soysauce ($38). This was packed with flavor. There was a lot of baby bok choy and pork. Portion was quite generous as well.
Price was cheap. All this for around $40 is cheap. Portion was big but food tasted fine except for the chicken. But then I was the only one who felt it was off. Boyfriend found nothing wrong with it and chomped away happily. Food does come out very fast. I think we ordered, cleaned our hands and there was food in front of us. Doubt we'd be back but at least we have an option of where to eat if in the area.
