To me, local food is the only way to represent that place and 車仔麵 cart noodle is definitely one of the most underrated traditional Hong Kong food to enjoy. Kwun Tong is all about cheap eat but it doesn't mean that quality has to be low at the same time because this cart noodle shop is actually quite famous for their good taste so that you can actually see that the shop is always quite packed any at time of the day. Kwun Tong is all about cheap eat but it doesn't mean that quality has to be low at the same time because this cart noodle shop is actually quite famous for their good taste so that you can actually see that the shop is always quite packed any at time of the day.
The price is very economic from $24 for 2 toppings, $30 for 3 toppings, and $36 for 4 toppings. I liked that they don't scale up the price for less toppings, giving you the freedom to just choose what you like from your heart, but not forcing you to spend more money for more variety but in fact less amount of toppings. This restaurant is true to itself and serves real authentic cart noodles with the taste that we used to have in our childhood.
Noodles with 4 toppings $36
I have chosen rice noodle instead of egg noodles / flat noodles / instant noodles. It's not cooked until mashy or too soft which I liked, and it absorbed all the beef brisket dark broth in the hot bowl of soup noodles.
Pig Blood - a generous amount of pig blood in big cubes are floating on top of the bowl, they are soft and slight chewy, with a fresh taste. It's my favourite kind of toppings to go with a good bowl of salty cart noodle!
Marinated chicken wings - 2 wings are given and they are marinated until darkened in colour. The meat is still very tender and the skin is very juicy with some Chinese spiced flavour immersed into it.
Marinated egg - with no disappointment, these eggs have been marinated for a long time as you can see from the dark brown colour from the edges. The egg yolk is not dry out and rather smooth. I personally liked to mix in the yolk into the soup to change up the flavour a bit.
Beef brisket - the brisket is not completed succulent but it still has a bite to it. There are some tenders part to it which is a bit more elastic and chewier but it is also more flavourful which I enjoyed.
Chilli paste - upon request, complimentary chilli paste is given in a spoon. It's more flavourful with a aromatic exciting kind of spiciness. You can eat spicy food, you wouldn't find it very spicy but it actually gives a uplifting taste to the already tasteful broth! I found it really scrumptious and I have decided to mix in the whole spoonful! p.s. I have heard the man behind me requesting for another free spoonful of chilli paste!
Iced lemon tea with less ice and less sweetened $8Its on point and it has no bitterness from the lemon. A good iced drink is just needed when consuming a piping hot bowl of spicy soup noodle! It's a good cup of tea, I think it's also very valueable to just come here for a cup of tea but
Spending most of my time in HK Island, it's quite impossible to find any food that costs less than $50, it's a treasure for us Hong Kong people to fight against the inflation. It's also very comforting and authentic that would bring us all the good old memories in the past.
