Situated on the same road as Sijie, and again featuring private-kitchen style Sichuan food, it is natural for food hunters to compare the 2 joints. Overall, I think I would cast my vote for this one Firstly, the setting is better - definitely more sophisticated as compared with that of Sijie; "cleaner and brighter" would be my comment. Although the place is smaller than Sijie, the environment was cosy and converyed a "home" feeling for its customers. Secondly, the service here is better. When we
Firstly, the setting is better - definitely more sophisticated as compared with that of Sijie; "cleaner and brighter" would be my comment. Although the place is smaller than Sijie, the environment was cosy and converyed a "home" feeling for its customers.
Secondly, the service here is better. When we arrived, we found ourselves stuck at the doorway initially. One of the managers actually came downstairs and greeted us. Service was efficient and polite. No hard-selling from staff this time unlike the rather annoying experience we got from the other restaurant ... ...
And thirdly, the food served here is of reasonable standard. Not that every dish is superb - for instance, for the 蒜泥白肉, I thought the meat texture was rather tough and there was not enough garlic in it. Likewise, the 辣子田雞 was a bit of disappointment really - too few pieces of frog meat, the meat was a bit overdone, and did not taste fresh to me. On the other hand, some dishes were of good quality: the sichuan style cold noodles for instance (super hot and spicy - even I could not eat all of it !), the chilli thousand year egg (yummy), and the 四季豆 were fine; by far the best dish of the evening was the 水煮魚, which was authentic and comparable with the high standard at Sijie. And then there was the 重陽芛炒肉絲 - it was way too salty initially and we could not eat it ! But after we told the manager, she apologized and asked the chef to re-do the dish again. Turned out to be really nice at the end
And finally, we came to the cost. For here, they charge 168 per person with no 10% surcharge, which was a little bit less expensive than at Sijie. Portions were big and we (4 of us) got really stuffed at the end. Overall a nice Sichuan experience - will probably come back later when I crave for spicy food again.
