I always liked the Okinawan izakaya EN, which has been around for more than 10 years. So I was glad to hear that EN has opened a sister restaurant SHO EN, which focuses more on Okinawan charcoal grill.

When I seated, my server asked me what kind of water I would like.
I asked for tap water, and she seemed a bit puzzled.
Then another server cut in and said, "Sorry, but we only sell bottled water"
Since I usually dine alone, I can not drink the whole bottle of water and I always think it's a waste. So I said it's OK, I will skip water.

Then I read the menu.
I understand they cook with special Okinawan AGU Pork, but even so, the prices were exorbitant. I would rather eat premium Japanese kuroge beef for that kind of price.

Anyway, I ordered Stir Fried Tofu with Pork for appetizer and AGU Pork with Ponzu sauce for main.
I also ordered a bowl of steamed rice, and wine sherbet for dessert.

First, they served me otoshi, which is Japanese amuse bouches.
They were Shime saba (vinegared mackerel), baigai, and small fishes resembling hiuo.

Then my dishes came out. Unlike the descriptions on menu, Stir Fried Tofu with Pork had no pork at all. It was just tofu with bean sprouts stir fried together. They charged $72 for it.
My AGU Pork with Ponzu sauce for $210 had 8 tiny pieces of char grilled pork.
They charged $30 for steamed rice. They charged yet another $30 for the amuse bouches served by default. My wine sherbet was $68.

So for stir fried tofu, 8 small pieces of chargrilled pork with rice, and one scoop of wine sherbet cost $450. And I was still hungry. I had to stop by a noodle shop on the way back home.
