Today marks the first day of March. I had hoped to start with a reinvigorating brunch to kick off a busy day. Ninetys had been on my list of to-visits and I thought given the virus situation it’d be a quiet morning—a good time to sample the Australian-inspired café that has only joined its ranks relatively recently. I am not sure whether the name pays tribute to the era of the 1990s or to those born in the 1990s (or perhaps neither). Either way, it definitely sounds and looks like something to l
The day (as opposed to night) menu started with “Full board uni toast"—which is a sea urchin themed brunch with scrambled egg and bagel. Then there was the Lobster Benedict. Supposedly two of the best options. The server came over to tell us that Lobster Benedict was not available today. Disappointed, my partner decided to go for the Uni Toast, and was then told that both the Uni Toast and the Lobster Benedict were “sold out” (at 10.30am on a Sunday). So he settled on “Craby Craby”, which is crab meat and scrambled egg on sourdough.
I chose Duck Leg Toast.
Our orders came shortly, but sadly for us neither lived up to even an average standard of quality. Craby Craby came with a scoop of crab meat laid on top of scrambled eggs. The crab meat was mushy and terribly fishy. As my partner suspected it wasn't fresh, he didn’t dare take a second bite. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, but the "sourdough" was too soft and sweet for our liking.

My duck leg toast platter looked very pretty. The pumpkin purée and peas were rather tasteless, but the citrus gravy that went with the duck leg was refreshing and flavorful. The duck leg itself was slightly on the tough side. It wasn’t too bad. I finished half of it.

By this time, we were too skeptical and didn’t want to risk wasting our daily coffee quota here, so we didn’t order their coffee. Perhaps it was a one-off miss or the kitchen wasn't sourcing fresh stock given the fewer number of diners. Our server was also haughty and we certainly didn’t feel welcome.
