Shatin in an area where we are never really sure what to eat. We always end up eating inside a mall. An that mall seems to always be New Town Plaza. On this day, we came across Aburi-en. It seemed new and as it was all about the meat, boyfriend was interested. And it's a good thing we arrived at 6! It filled up quickly and there was a long line of people waiting to dine!Menu is n English, Japanese and English. You pay on your way out. What they serve is grilled meat on top of rice. Yep. Menu is n English, Japanese and English. You pay on your way out. What they serve is grilled meat on top of rice. Yep. There is no veggies here. Of course, you can add $15 for a set upgrade which does include a small salad and miso soup. But yeah ... we skipped that.
Boyfriend had the Miyazaki Wagyu and Ryukaton Pork Rice Box ($149). The beef was really good. Moist and tender with a lovely strong beef tase. The pork was ok and not too fat in texture. There were also some grilled mushrooms as well. The sauce on top was very sweet and savory.
I had the Aburi-En Pork Rice Bowl ($72). The pork meat here was a bit more fat in content. But it tasted pretty much the same as boyfriend's pork. There seemed to be more of the yakiniku sauce as well. This I loved. Portions was definitely not big. It's rare I could finish a whole bowl of rice in a donburi bowl, but here I could. Maybe it was the sauce?
Quite good food. Price was typical but portions weren't very big. Definitely go for the beef more than the pork.
