Since Nan Fung shopping mall has been revamped and completed renovated almost inside out, lots of new restaurants and shops have been opened and the whole shopping mall is coloured with some new elements for younger generations. The restaurant has a pretty open interior so that the customer would feel more spacious when either dining in or outside in the shared area.
Rock oyster and kimchi egg pancake $62There are 3 types of kimchi egg pancake and they are all mixed with taiwanese ingredients. I have chosen the oyster one because I always love the Taiwanese style oyster pancake. At XOXO, their pancakes are more Korean style and mostly egg based, topped with some spicy mayo sauce.
The pancake is filled with kimchi, scallion and some small pieces of juicy oysters. It takes on the tradition of Taiwanese pancake that it is a bit moist, while the kimchi gives a nice kick to it.
Since I am really picky with the temperature of food. I also like that the pancake is served on a very hot skillet, maintaining the warmth of the dish.
Char-grill short ribs $118Around 5 pieces of nicely cooked beef short ribs are sitting on a bed of lettuce and okra!!! I love okra because it is very healthy for you. Taking on a Korean twist, the beef is marinated in a rather sweet sauce, and served with the traditional Korean spicy soy paste.
You may choose to serve it with either rice or lettuce and I have picked the latter one.
The thin and nicely marinated beef is very taste with just the right savouriness and sweetness.
I personally would prefer bigger pieces of lettuce so that I can wrap the beef around but I was told that the lettuce is meant to be eaten separately by dipping into the sauce.
Overall, I really liked the tenderness from the beef but I would probably prefer to have it with a bowl of rice next time because the lettuce is not enough for this dish with a strong taste.
Overall, it's a nice alternative to have a nice meal in Hang Hau. I am happy that they brought to change to the shopping mall though it also means that people in the neighbourhood would have to pay more for their meals now.
