Friday night, I’m with my girlfriends and we were looking for a relaxing place to have a cold beverage to unwind from a long working week. We decided to go to Big Sur since the place looks quite nice. The moment upon arrival, we were met by the most unenthusiastic crowd of waiters. Hordes by the front door but none of them seem to care about anything else but each other. Chitchatting by the bar and never seem to be able to meet our gaze when we wanted to order after 20 mins of arrival. So close

Friday night, I’m with my girlfriends and we were looking for a relaxing place to have a cold beverage to unwind from a long working week. We decided to go to Big Sur since the place looks quite nice. The moment upon arrival, we were met by the most unenthusiastic crowd of waiters. Hordes by the front door but none of them seem to care about anything else but each other. Chitchatting by the bar and never seem to be able to meet our gaze when we wanted to order after 20 mins of arrival. So close to leaving, suddenly, one of them finally came by to take our order. When serving our drinks, this lady brushed the wine glass against my arm to let me know she’ll just dump BOTH glasses in front of me without realising an ‘excuse me’ would be suffice to catch my attention and turn my head around mid conversation. Then, plonked down the other drink in front of the wrong person and decided to reach for the right person at the other end of the table right in front of me. Have they never heard of simple waiting etiquette? Finished our drinks (nobody seemed to care about the bar’s earnings because refills weren’t offered even when our first glasses had been empty for 30 mins) and wishing to leave this place badly - couldn’t get their attention even though they were less than 2 metres away from us, so had to pull out the classic Hong Kong style exaggerated wave to get the bill.

Classic uninterested workers in a bar who are purely there for the sake of being there. The bar only exists to feast the eyes, but with this kind of customer service (and hk is already not famous for it), it will definitely not last in the long run. Never again!
