Went there with my ex-colleagues there for a reuion. The manager strongly recommended thed $398 crab dinner set, so we ordered 5 sets plus an order of grilled ox-tongue.The ox-tongue was so tough and chewy that I had to spit it out. The ox-tongue was so tough and chewy that I had to spit it out. When the crabs arrived, we were very excited. The crab legs were not too salty and quite tasty. When the waiter cleared away the crab shells, she dropped some on the floor between me and my friend and some on her bag. The waiter was in such a hurry that she didn't even notice what she had done. Then came the steamed egg, it was so sweet and weird tasting that none of us finished our portion. When the waiter cleared them away, my friend tried to tell him that the steamed egg was way too sweet. He totally ignored her as if he didn't hear her! Amazingly poor customer service.
Then the meal progressed from okay to inedible. The beef and shitake roll was again was smoothered in a sugary sauce, none of us finished it. The tempura was so greasy that we couldn't bring ourselves to eat it. They simply look grotesque!My friend again tried to lodge a complaint to the manager, and he showed us the "black face" and very reluctantly suggested to make her another order of the tempura, which my friend declined. A couple of my friends were hungry enough to bravely peeled off the extremely greasy batter and ate the tasteless shrimp inside. I used a napkin to mop up the grease on the sweet potato tempura and ate it. The sweet potato was actually okay.
The waiter then asked us to order the sushis, as they will need at least 20 minutes for preparation. We filled in the order form as told, but when we tried to give it to the manager, he told us that we cannot order the sushi until we finished the hot pot! When we explained what the waiter told us earlier, he said, "You can order the sushi now if you want to, I'm just telling you that they won't arrive until you have finished the shabu shabu." Astonishingly bad customer service, especially for a Japanese restaurant in the mid price range.!
Then came the individual shabu shabu. The artificial coal was cracking nosily, and the pot sat on top at a haphazard angle. My friend complained again, while the rest of us just tried to finish the veggie and tofu in the small pot ASAP. The taste was just okay.
The sushi finally arrived. The fish was very thinly sliced and didn't taste very fresh.
The best part of the meal was the ice cream. The Japanese pomelo ice cream was very refreshing.
Overall, except for the crab legs and the ice cream, the meal was dreadful and the customer service was even more so. We will definitely NOT go back. One of my friend said that she will go home and eat an instant noodle, because she is still hungry! My friends said that they will definitely tell their friends and family not to go there.
