Sai Wan Ho has a surprising amount of decent restaurants around the East Soho and near the main street. Since I've been on a Ramen spree lately, the small ramen shop "Fukuoka Ramen" caught my attention. A quick search on OpenRice showed that it was 100% good (i.e. 4 good and 0 bad) so it's worth a shot.

The small shop was surprisingly busy and I had to queue for a little while. The waitress kindly gave me the option of either sitting alone, which will necessitate more waiting time, or sitting with other customers (which I believe is quite a Hong Kong invention due to space limitations). I chose the latter and was able to get a seat in about 5 minutes.
B4 my "victim", i.e. another customer, arrived.

The ramen I ordered was a Kara ramen - i.e., spicy ramen, in view of the good comments. It was named as the "JiGoku" (i.e. Hell) soup base. I ordered this one plus a set of fried shrimps.

The ramen came and it looked fairly spicy but I wasn't expecting much.
Looked manageable...

The noodle was quite thick and eggy. It was not exactly my cup of tea so I might recommend the Udon instead.
So-so: Udon might be better.

Anyway, back to the broth, to my surprise, the soup base was extremely hot!
It was super hot to the extent that I started sweating immediately. I must have freaked out the lady sitting in front of me (sorry for that!) by unbuttoning my suit, constantly wiping my sweat of my forehead and cleaning my glasses...etc


I believe they used different types of Korean chilly powder plus perhaps Korean miso mixed with some pork bone broth as the base - I'm not saying it tasted like a Shin Rya Myon (the Korean instant noodle) - but it tasted like "Korean" spiciness as opposed to Japanese spicy miso or spring onion type of spiciness ( I'm sure you know what I mean
).

The char siu was excellent.
It's thick, tender and aromatic. I wasn't expecting such good char siu at HK$39. The quality of the char siu was definitely equal to, if not better, than most famous ramen shops around town. It is comparable to the char siu at Yokozuna and Daruma.




The fried shrimps was also really good. 3 fried shrimps per set and the quality was good. Definitely recommended. (I didn't manage to take a photo of the fried shrimps because I was just barely functioning after the soup!


The service was good - for example, the waiter handed me a few pieces of tissue when I was sweating like hmm...... hell.

I was told that the stock was home made and was quite famous in the locality.

Given the good price and good service, if you are around the area, this is definitely worth a try.
Good option for lunch too.
