Iconic HK dishes, Upgraded

Godbro XO and I have a mutual friend who has emigrated to the US, and he was visiting his mother in Hong Kong for Mother's Day.  Our friend finally figured out a day where he could meet up with us, so XO found a restaurant that is convenient for all of us!The restaurant XO found is on Jupiter Street, and the name translates to Kam Ho phonetically.  Upon entering the restaurant, we saw that the decor is similar to other neighborhood Chinese restaurants.  However, there were a few upgrades.  Each of us had our own pair of personal chopsticks plus a pair of communal chopsticks.  Also, the restaurant had their own brand wet tissues, which is quite rare for a non-chain restaurant.

 Since the restaurant is recommended by XO, we let him choose what to order, and everything turned out awesome!

 Cherry Tomato Appetizer: The presentation of the dish was very appealing--arranging the peeled cherry tomatoes to look like grapes.  The cherry tomatoes were pickled to add a preserved plum flavor to them.  The pickled tomatoes were very stimulating to the appetite with the sweet and sour flavor.

 Char Siu & Roast Goose:  The char siu was quite tender, and the roast goose was very flavorful.  We were all saying that the quality of the roasted items were definitely on par with some acclaimed restaurants in HK!

 Pork Belly Rib with Special Sauce: I was a little scared of the fat of the pork belly, so I only ate the lean meat attached to it.  The piece I had was very tender, and the special sauce was delicious!

 Braised Shark's Fin with Chicken Soup:  The highlight of this dish was definitely the very flavorful chicken soup!  The chicken soup had such a strong flavor that could only be achieved with hours of cooking with a good amount of chicken!  Although the shark's fin is not top notch, the quality and quantity was really good for the price of $ 438!

 Chicken Innards in Sizzling Clay Pot: I grew up in a family that eats just about anything, so I didn't shy away from this dish!  After sizzling in the super hot clay pot, the chicken innards had a little char on it and tasted so good!  There were no traces of the bitterness that comes from the minerals in the innards at all!

 Typhoon Shelter Shelled Mantis Shrimp: I love mantis shrimp (I call it pee pee shrimp because of its Chinese name), but I hate getting pricked when I remove the shells, so this dish was perfect!  The mantis shrimps have been shelled, and the typhoon shelter fried garlic mixture's flavor could really penetrate the mantis shrimps!  The mantis shrimps were much more tender than the ones I had before which was quite surprising!

 Tung Choi with Dried Shrimps in Clay Pot:  I'm normall not a fan of tung choi, but this tung choi didn't have the mushy texture and bitter flavor I dislike.  I think the heat of the clay pot helped the tung choi retain its crunchy texture and bright flavor.

 Oysters with Ginger and Spring Onion in Clay Pot: The oyters had a light batter on them, so they had bits of crunchy edges, and just the right amount of sauce clung on to them.  The oysters were very plump, and the sauce was delicious, so the oysters didn't taste fishy at all!

 Kam Ho Tasty Chicken: Normally, I would go directly for the thigh of the chicken, but I really wanted to see how tender the chicken was, so I took a breast piece along with a thigh piece.  The breast piece was very tender and went well with the oily ginger and spring onion, and the thigh piece was very tasty on its own.  This chicken dish definitely lives up to its name!

 Conpoy and Egg White Fried Rice: I hate mushy fried rice, and this was definitely not the case!  The rice were fried so that the grains were all separated and not stuck together at all!  This fried rice showed the years of experience the chef has--it had a strong wok hei (the "breath of the wok") that made the fried rice very delectable!

Thanks to our friend visiting HK from the US and godbro XO's restaurant recommendation, we were able to have an awesome meal with memorable iconic HK dishes!  XO and I enjoyed the meal so much that we were already planning on bringing his gourmand group to Kam Ho again!
