The weather was scorching hot so we ordered something to drink right away. J ordered the milk tea with tapioca while I ordered the mango green tea. Both were refreshing to drink but the flavors were a bit mild for my taste. The tea could have been stronger as well.

Japanese Herbal Wine Chicken ($25) - this was an interesting dish that is supposed to be derived from an ancient Japanese recipe. Cooked with Chinese herbs and rice wine, the broth was deliciously sweet to drink while the chicken pieces were very flavorful. This would be perfect in the cold winter months as a sip would just warm you up in an instant!

Plum Pork Chop with Rice ($38) - this dish uses pork shoulder which is a premium cut known for its tender meat and even distribution of fat. Marinated with plum, the pork was unbelievably tender with a mild tangy taste.

The vegetable rice was a bit bland though which just tasted like regular rice.

Shilin Beef Shank Noodle Soup ($40) - I love Taiwanese beef noodle soup so I was anxious to try the one here. The beef shank served here were unlike anything I've seen before as they are long and thick strips instead of thinly sliced or chopped commonly found elsewhere. The beef shank was very soft and tender to eat while chewy in the all the right places. The broth was a bit disappointing though as I found it to be bland and not as flavorful for my taste. I prefer my broth to be rich and spicy so if the broth can be improved, this would be one great beef noodle soup.

We also got a side of soft boiled egg which was cooked perfectly with a soft and creamy center.

The restaurant seemingly puts quite a bit of care and thought in selecting their ingredients while creating Taiwanese dishes with a twist which can be quite different from what you would typically find in other Taiwanese restaurants!
