My wife and I were in the mood for sushi, so we decided to try this place in Wan Chai. Here's a rundown:We ordered two Asahis and they came in cold metal mugs. I have to say, that's the sort of extra touch that goes a long way with me. First tocome out was the fatty tuna and the snapper. My wife had already grabbed one of the snapper pieces by the time I had a chance to snap a photo. It was better than Genki, but it didn't blow my mind or anything. The california roll came with one half sprinkled with sesame and the other half with fish roe. It didn't really make a huge difference. The rolls were a little chewy-- I think it was the seaweed. Other than that, they seemed to have quality ingredients. B+
I love yakimandu, these fried Japanese or Korean dumplings. They've got a pork and cabbage filling, but it's still very different from your standard pork and cabbage dumplings in Chinese cuisine. The skins are much thinner, so when they're fried they're crisp all the way through. These ones were a little bit *more* crispy than I like, but I missed this style of dumplings and was happy to get them again. A-
The grilled eel was surprisingly meaty and crispy. A little bit overcooked in my opinion, but still very good. B
We got the pumpkin and sweet potato tempura. It actually came with even more pieces than you see here; this is after we ate some. Kinda on the bland side, but that's what you expect with this dish. Maybe a little bit too much fried food for two people to share. Still, executed well. B+
The fried tuna roll was the only thing that I didn't like. I didn't quite know what a fried tuna roll was before I ordered it, so that's partly my fault. Tuna really soaks up the oil of frying, and this dish just tasted heavy and dense. I should order fewer fried things, really. C-I thought the food was good B/ B+. The servers were very nice, and one was an adorable little old lady who said quite a lot that we didn't understand to us, but in a very endearing way. Tea refills were infrequent-- but hey, I had my beer! If this place were next door, I'd probably eat here regularly. As I had to go to WC to get here, I probably won't come back. But you should give it a go. Overall: B+.
