Izakaya Dinner. Same group as Wa-En Kappo in the same building; but view was not as good as it’s only on the first floor. One private room, tables in the main dining hall seating around 10 diners; and counter seating approximately 6. Fresh daily special items were displayed in glass box. Here’s what we had.
Grilled fish slices
秋刀魚sashimi
Scorched toro with Balsamic Vinegar and sesame.
Deep fried small white shrimps with Seaweed and Curry Powder
Hotpot of crab miso paste. We were given pieces of raw turnip and seaweed tempura to dip. The pot came heated by a candle stand. Wasn’t hot enough the first time round, so tasted a bit fishy. Told the chef, who reheated to boiling hot. Better the second time round.
Grilled chicken wings- being chicken from the the Awaodori (阿波尾) breed from Tokushima, Japan. The meat, with reddish streaks, has a low fat content that makes it moderately chewy, and especially high levels of “umami flavor” constituents.
Also on the menu was the grilled Hanamidori chicken fillet- saw chef making a lot of those- skin looked very crispy but too full. Next time.
Grilled beef tongue. Thick tender slices.
Grilled kinki. Skin could be crispier.
Grilled oyster
5-egg Udon Carbonara (ie with Mentaiko, Uni, Bottarga, Poached Egg and Salmon Roe). Loved the creamy sauce. The thin shredded seaweed added excellent texture and flavors.
Not many dessert options. Only yuzu sherbet on offer.
In summary: fun nite. Excellent service.
