After last year's successful campaign with Chef Christian Yang, McDonald's rolled out another Chef's Choice burger this year, and the featured Chef is Gabriel Choy.

The featured burger is a Pulled Chicken burger, and along with it, they are also selling Thick Cut Fries as a special item.

The commercial for this burger has been running on tv frequently, and I must say the narrator's English is pretty appalling as it took me viewing the ad about 3 times to understand the sauce is tandoori sauce.  (I've seen people call it a cheese sauce which, to me, means they didn't understand what the narrator was saying either!)

 Pulled Chicken Burger: The bread is a soft roll that is different from their regular burger bun. The most prominent thing you see when you unwrap the burger is the big onion ring, and the pulled chicken is actually hiding inside the onion ring. (The second time I had this burger, they had a much smaller onion ring that was hidden in the pulled chicken.) There was also a glob of white sauce in the middle of the pulled chicken that tasted like a mayo. Underneath the pulled chicken was a thin layer of coleslaw.

 The pulled chicken was pretty tasty with the tandoori sauce, and the onion ring did add a big crunch factor to the burger.  The mayo was a little lost in the burger since tandoori sauce is already a flavor bomb.  The coleslaw was not as crunchy as expected, and since this is a pulled chicken burger, I thought it would be closer to a Southern coleslaw that would be a little sweet, but it wasn't.  The flavor combination of the whole burger was quite interesting, but it wasn't what I'd expect when I heard Pulled Chicken as Southern pulled pork is made with BBQ sauce!  (The wrapped of the burger did have a picture of pulled pork on it in addition to the pulled chicken burger, so maybe, there will be another burger for this campaign?  I'm only speculating...)

 Thick Cut Fries: These fries are different from the normal McDonald's fries in that they had a stronger potato flavor, and of course, they were thicker and had a different texture.  I like that they featured a special fries for this burger, and it was appropriate for the campaign.  However, I wouldn't want McDonald's to replace their iconic fries since that's what I've come to expect when I go to Mickey D's!

Overall, I believe that this is another successful campaign for McDonald's.  Some people have said that this is nothing special, but I think you have to compare an apple to an apple!  If you are comparing it to a burger specialty restaurant, of course, this pulled chicken burger would be inferior, but this is a McDonald's burger!  For the price you pay for the whole meal, the flavor and quality are pretty good!
