This little gem of a place we found randomly walking around Tai Po is worthy of a visit. The exterior of this transitional style fast food Chinese may put you off and even when sat down you question yourself if this place really could offer anything great, but when you look around at all the locals and their families tucking away at hot bowls of congee or slurping away at steaming bowls of noodles you know there must be something special. Don't let the dripping air conditioning units put you of
So... our first visit was a late one. 1 in the morning we decided to munch and this place certainly fulfilled that. I went for my favourite salt pork and century egg congee cooked right infront of me and we also tried the hot clay pot rice with black bean spare ribs and Chinese sausages which takes longer as they make each individually. Congee was one of the smoothest and most fillin.. and I'm definitely a congee connoisseur. The clay pot rice came about 15 minutes later and boy was it worth the wait. Came out piping hot and the smell was just unreal. We enjoyed every last grain of rice and walked it all down with a cold ice lemon tea...
And 2nd visit.... this was a bit early. We went for lunch but couldn't help order more congee. This time it was fish with nuts congee (teng jai juk) plus (ja leung) which is Chinese fried dough with thin rice flour pastry wrapped around it covered in soya sauce. She ordered beef tendon and ho fun noodle soup with crispy fish skin. As always the congee was outstanding with no complaints and the fried dough stick was up to standard as you'd expect. The beef tendon noodle wasn't to disappoint either ticking all the boxes however we would recommend leaving the crispy fish skin as they seemed a little unfresh and came out a big box on the restaurant floor.
Overall we would highly recommend this place for a authentic quick Chinese dining experience. We certainly will be returning.
